Lake Erie in NY/PA: Any cool places?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 4 of 4 messages posted.
“Hi guys! I was a regular for about five years in the late 90s/early 2000s. We had a pretty active local hike group near Detroit. I miss this place. :) Anyway, I'm currently circling Lake Erie with my wife and 6 month old. We'll be in Erie, PA for the next few days. I heard that there are some interesting rivers with steep banked walls/canyons along that stretch of the lake. Anyone know anything?” 9:09:30 PM 6/22/10 “Can't help you out RL, but the pics of you guys on your trip are great. That baby is adorable!” 3:03:39 AM 6/23/10 “Six Mile Creek Park. I haven't been there, it's undeveloped and has shale gorges. http://www.eriecountyplanning.org/index.php?page=six-mile-creek Presque Isle State Park is worth visiting. Zoar Valley in NY is beautiful, I hear. Do an internet search.” 6:34:03 AM 6/23/10 “Zoar Valley is pretty. it's not along the lake though. up near/south of Buffalo is a great spot for fossil hunting. we had a bunch of fun exploring in this area. here's some info from "the fossil collecting directory" -- Eighteen Mile Creek -- on the south side of Buffalo and located off route 5. The best hunting area is between the lake shore and the Route 5 bridge, at the mouth into Lake Erie. There used to be a place to park off the road (Rt. 5) by the bridge. It is about a quarter mile walk along paths to the lake” 6:49:53 AM 6/23/10
