Inherent problem with moderation system

but they kept a reported post on a thread where I was called dip#&%!$ by naked ape where it was 100% out of the blue unprovoked.


Whoever moderated last night was 100% taking sides.

Not true: the majority of the moderators might be anonymous to the main board but they do answer to each other. Abuse of "power" is met with the same fate as any abuses on the main board.”

I will also add one more thing:

None of the moderators are working on any specific timetable. To my knowledge, there are eleven moderators but none of us are monitoring every post or even tuning in to TT every day. Some posts will get missed; some posts will be read and allowed to stay; some posts will be deleted. Not every post that gets reported will be deleted. It is what it is. There are insults strewn all across this board going back several years and no one is going to go looking for them to delete them. No matter how diligent we try to be, some posts are just going to stay for one reason or another.

Having said that, if you feel strongly enough about another person’s post that you have some need to “retaliate", you do so at your own risk.”

I can speak for at least one part-time moderator and will repeat what I said earlier: we moderate on no one's time table. The fact that a post is still there is not an example of bias any more than it is an example of a post that just hasn't been deleted because no one felt like taking the time to go in and delete it yet. If I decide to post on the main board, feed my dog, or take a vacation instead, so what? That's not bias, that's apathy. I've already told you not to expect quick results.

There are 1000s of undeleted personal attacks that are still undeleted for any number of reasons. (Quite a few of them are directed towards me or some other moderator.) Is that due to bias? Of course not.”

This reminds me of Obama ... "Trust me, I'll fix the problem, just you wait and see!" ... then nothing happens except it gets worse. Oh, did you forget the next day. A day where the SAME people went hog wild and nothing was done?

Meanwhile, chili continues the attack by piling on and telling me to get lost. Mind you, I did not retaliate to naked ape - yet chili is adding fuel to the fire. Again, as you can plainly see for yourself, I did not then attack chili. Yet, here he is using the opportunity to essentially call me a cry baby. Where was he calling naked ape a cry baby when he complained about me? Nowhere. Yet, he's piling on. Am I dreaming this? Is it in my imagination? No. It's not a conspiracy.”

I can't speak for every moderator. As far as myself, I look at TT and/or the moderator board as it fits into my schedule. Sometimes I delete things right away, sometimes I do it later. I don't have the same sense of urgency that you seem to.

Again, the moderators have very few tools at their disposal---in fact as far as I can tell only a few moderators are even actively participating. (Although as far as I know, some of them may be content with TT as it is.) Demand Media appears to be non-participatory at this point. They handed us a few keys to the mansion then bolted the doors behind us. They have given us a freaking Gmail address in which we are to send our concerns, requests, etc. If/when they respond it is usually months later. Having said that, there have been requests made for changes as well as requests made to ban certain users. Results might show up (or disapear, I guess) months from now. So I repeat, what people chose to do here is at their own risk. Some of us ARE paying attention. Just don't expect perfection.”
