Looking for hiking Groups
Last month I took a trip out west and went hiking in New Mexico. It was amazing. Now it's all I want to do. I live in SW Florida half the year and south Jersey the other half. I'm looking for some people up and down the east coast to help with this new found love. I'm willing to travel. So where is a good place to start.

I went to the trips page and emailed a few people. I'm just not sure which ones would be good for a beginner. Oh and dudes, there are totally better sites to get your "mack" on.

PA is a hot bed for hiking. I am in Indiana and have traveled to PA several times to get my hike on.

Check out the trip page for a bigger hike to make your introduction if you do not mind the travel.

Many good people here. Ignore the BS that flys around here.

Please forgive us if we offended you in any way. We have a lot of trolls around here and every time a new person posts something, we automatically jump to conclusions.

Welcome!!

ok. I'm sure what a troll is, but thanks. I from South jersey. Cape May to be exact. I would like to take a trip up to the smokey mountains in late April or may before I head north for the summer. I'm in the process of buying equipment now. I have boots, that's' about it. This summer I will definitely be taking trips to PA.

Another option is to look at meetup.com for hikes in your area. The organizers generally just folks looking to hike more or go backpacking, not guides or experienced outdoor leaders. If you keep that in mind, it can be a great resource.

Ped I would beg to differ there are three I know of that are very active with trips to Va, Wv, both Carolinas, and Tn. The one here in the Derby City had a trip to the Tetons last August.

Besides she is not going to get anymore of an experienced leader here...being opinionated does not experience make.

I suggest you lurk for a while, you will soon see who are real and who are the posers.

BA!!

If they sound serious they are. If they sound like jerks they are!! LOL

We do a lot of hiking in the Midwest too.

Kinda surprised ole WK did not mention that fact!

Just don't take anything you see too serious as far as some of these posts are concerned.

The majority of folks on here hike all the time, but there is a highly vocal minority that make some people think were a bunch of losers.

They are. We're not!!

Check out the East Coast Treckers, that’s a bunch of folks on here that have a lot of good hikes and, for the most part, they’re good people. (Had ta put the disclaimer in there!!) LOL

See ya later,
Randall

She's got the fever. Hee! Hee! Welcome to the club! There are lots of resources on this website - check out the beginners and gear pages. Lurk around here for a while, do some reading on what gear you need, do some day hikes.

Sticks - I wasn't trying to put down meetup at all. I was recommending it. It's just that you shouldn't assume any trip organizer knows what s/he is doing (same for TT). Some do, some don't. All you need to do to become organizer/owner of a meetup is to pay for it.

I live in Gainesville, FL.

I won't be hiking until this fall, but Ocala NF is a great place in winter.

You may also want to consider kayak camping. Cumberland Island Ga. makes a great combination kayak/hiking trip.
