Hmmmmm..

It seems that Crash has forgot about this trip!!!

He did the same thing to his Big Bend Trip in December.

No post since the 4th!!

Maybe somebody should give him a call!!

I might be able to make this now and if Crsah has flown the coop, I could put something together on the weekend of the 12th!!

Perhaps that'll get a rise!!!

See ya later.

I am going to let Jacob skip school on Friday for a little Outdoor Education. Friday to Monday would be great Monday being Presidents Day.

Big S.Fork
My first trip with my son will be the 12th w/e. Anyone know where we can stash the car and do a loop for 3, maybe 4 days. We are coming from Nville.

Big S.Fork
Sounds like there is plenty of S.Fork experience on this thread.......any particulars you might impart in the spirit of Bpacking fellowship. Some CRAZYman at a local sporting goods store (claimed to be an avid outdoorsman....?) said I would be nuts to bring my son out there without protection....from lions(?) and theives! IS THIS TRUE? The LIONS is about as farfetched as it gets, but the theives is a little stressful.....?

Hey All!!
Crash is still alive and working on his Finite math!!

He says he is gonna post soon as he figures out the dates er sumpin like that!!

As far as Big South Forks goes

No Charit Creek will be closed for the Winter!!

I took a gun with me and ended up shooting at some wild hogs, but that only happened once!!!

There are Bear there as well!!!

No thieves, at least not that I have encountered, that’s only at the Red River Gorge, KY!!!

Just ask Crash and Stomper!!

Hers a link to one of my trips, Check it out, be sure to read the threads for the PIcs link!!

First thing don't get offended when someone calls you a troll because you don't have your location filed on your profile.

Second if you are worried about thieves park your car at Bandy Creek Visitor Center, you have to go there to get your permit anyway. There are several options for loops from here. If you don't have it get the Trails Illustrated map of Big South and one of the books by Duncan. Personally I have never had any problems with tom-foolery and I have been going here since the early 90s.

what part of Nashville? I was up in BSF last weekend and had my little corner to myself. My first overnight trip was in the BSF. Lots of options and trail heads to leave your car. Ditto the Bandy Creek suggestion.

Yep

The best advice so far is to call Howard Duncan, he's the head property manager, Head Ranger, er sumpin like that. He knows the whole place really well and can tell you some of the best spots ta go.

I got some maps on that link above.

See ya later.

I agree with Sticks...park at Bandy Creek and talk to the Rangers there. There is a great ridge trail starting from the campground, which is beautiful. From there you have several options depending on how many miles you want to do. One thing I have found in backpacking at BSF is there a lack of good campsites (i.e., they fill up fast in good weather) so be mindful as you get close to sundown. THere is a ranger there that wrote a trail book on the BSF and knows every inch, she is really helpful. It is a beautiful area. Never had problems with thieves or mountain lions...or bears (Randall are there really bears in BSF??)

Also, that was my 14 year old daughter's first backpacking trip...
