“I'm a big fan of V. Got the DVDs of the 80's miniseries and series, comic book series and even a screen play from one of the episodes. So yes, I watched it - but with trepidation after reading the insider info on how they were going to change it all up.

I'll give it a B- so far. I don't like that they don't obviously differentiate the visitors. The old show kept them in red uniforms making it easy to pick them out. I also don't like that they revealed so much right in the first episode (their true physical nature, their real reason for coming, their desire to wipe out humans, the creation of the resistance). What took 4 or 5 hours in the first miniseries took a whole hour. What happened to character discovery and plotline buildup? They took all the original plot arcs and flatlined them right at the start - so they better have some good new arcs to make this series worth it.

Oh, and I agree that the Obama references were rather blatant. A shame that they had to draw in jabs at modern politics, it will make it less watchable in the future. The original miniseries/series was obviously built upon WWII references - the V's are the Germans slowly building up their power and influence until they are the master race, etc., etc. But that was all old history even in the 80's that everyone knew and agreed with. Modern political statements are another thing entirely.

Non - The original miniseries (the first) was great. The 2nd miniseries was mostly OK until the final scene when they completely flucked it up with that superpower bull$hit. The series that ran after the 2nd miniseries was very lame. They only kept the old plotlines going instead of making some new ones to grab the audience.”

“i like that they got the old plot twists out of the way quickly. the audiece already knows that the v's arent what they seem, that theyre really yucky aliens underneath, etc, so what would be the point of dragging that out? if they did that, then it would just be copying it. if youre going to re-make something, you should bring something new to the table. the approach here can work: get the old stuff out of the way quickly, so that they can start making it their own right away

the new battlestar galactica did it perfectly, btw. they kept the core premise, tweaked a lot of the characters and old plotlines, and still made an outstanding series that was true to the orginal, and superior to the original”

“When the new Battlestar came out I hated it. Likely because I loved the old Battlestar so much. After 2 or 3 weeks of the new Battlestar however I was hooked and loved it every bit as much. I have probably missed half of the episodes though and need to catch up this winter.”
