Coyote AttackView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 29 of 29 messages posted.
awful and amazing 12:39:33 PM 10/29/09 “amazing... and pretty strange. I've been around plenty of coyotes and I've never seen them act even remotely aggressive toward people” 12:45:33 PM 10/29/09 “Well darnit we need to issue them a strongly worded warning.” 12:46:31 PM 10/29/09 “That animal was killed because of "lack of fear," he said. Lack of Fear is not a good thing for animals around humans. Coyotes killed nearly all the areas cats and small dogs around my parents house a few years ago. Deer hunters started shooting every coyote they saw, and the coyotes aren't seen by people now.” 12:47:40 PM 10/29/09 “I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened sooner. The coyote population in the Northeast has been steadily climbing for years, while wild areas for them to live in have shrunk. Human/coyote interactions are becoming more and more common.” 12:56:25 PM 10/29/09 “I read that in the paper this morning. It was a tragic incident.” 12:56:38 PM 10/29/09 “The "Experts" said those two yotes were probably young ones....and didn't know they were supposed to be afraid of humans. Probably jumped the petite gal hiker from behind and knocked her down, then bit her all over and ruptured one of her big blood vessels. She was just starting her music career....going on her first cross-country tour to promote her album. Tragic end to a promising career and short life. :o(” 1:14:21 PM 10/29/09 “She may have been too afraid to fight back, which could have made the Coyotes intensify their attack? last edited: 10/29/09 2:05:06 PM” 2:03:33 PM 10/29/09 “Lizs will love this story. /sarc” 2:05:51 PM 10/29/09 “Her death is tragic, I don't know why her profession makes it any more so.” 5:21:26 PM 10/29/09 “I think you are reading more into the statement hyway than he meant.” 6:18:05 PM 10/29/09 “Most likely. Its just a pet peeve of mine.” 6:46:20 PM 10/29/09 “I know what you mean.” 6:54:33 PM 10/29/09 “Wow.....” 7:31:23 PM 10/29/09 “Those dang coyotes ”5:00:25 AM 10/30/09 “I have only heard of an aggressive coyote one other time. A friend was bit on her leg by a coyote that confronted her on a trail....I believe it was near Atlanta, GA. The recent talk among the old Yoopers is that they expect something like that to happen here soon---only due to wolves rather than coyotes.” 5:46:38 AM 10/30/09 “She loved the woods and had a deep affinity for their beauty and serenity," Preaching to the choir, here. Yet woods are woods. Here there be tigers. Belle and Giz often smell something, but mosthings keep hidden. This incident goes to show you just never know. That's why I carry a coyote stick - yet I realize I will likely use it against dogs if I ever use it at all - besides as a staff, arrowhead plucker, weed whacker, etc.” 6:01:50 AM 10/30/09 “NC, I agree with you about wolves. They are less and less afraid and more and more curious. It's pretty much open season around here and has been for some time.” 6:19:05 AM 10/30/09 “You know...I never would have expected that. Heck the Coyote tried for YEARS to get the road runner with a whole buncha stuff from Acme. The whole..chase em down and kill em..thats a new danger. If you were jogging through the park and saw 300 of rail track and a rocket car..that would be enough warning.” 7:01:48 AM 10/30/09 fixed ““I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened sooner. The folk singer population in the Northeast has been steadily climbing for years, while festivals for them to sing in have shrunk. Human/folk singer interactions are becoming more and more common.” lumbering ax murderer 12:56:25 PM 10/29/09 ignore this user report this message” 7:13:51 AM 10/30/09 “I swear, I didn't put them up to this.” 7:20:46 AM 11/03/09 “I'd be surprised if she wasn't feeding them or something equally silly. Coyotes don't hunt people.” 7:36:44 AM 11/03/09 7:46:35 AM 11/03/09 “We may never know for sure toejam. Coyotes in the Northeast are actually coyote/wolf hybrids and have been taking on larger pray for the past 30 years or so. I know in my area, whitetail deer has become the main food source for coyotes. If they can take down a deer, given the right opportunity they could take down a human. She my have done something as simple as bent over to tie a shoe, which might have given the coyotes the idea of taking the opportunity. This is strictly speculation though.” 7:54:32 AM 11/03/09 “Other hikers saw two coyotes, but there may have been many more at the exact time of the attack. Zac's right, DNA has confirmed a coyote/wolf mix. Up here they'll come up on your back deck at night - you can see the eyes shine in the light outside.” 10:18:11 AM 11/03/09 “That's when a .22lr rifle comes in handy!!!! Hey Gremlin....where are you at in "La Belle Province"....I seem to recall you mentioned somewhere in the Eastern Townships awhile back....near Bishop's University? Anyways, read all about those deers you're seeing in the other thread..... One of my friends want to go deer hunting....but he doesn't know where is a good spot. Maybe next year for him.” 3:17:51 AM 11/04/09 “I'm near Huntingdon, in the 'suburbs' of the hamlet of Rockburn (it's on the map).” 7:19:28 AM 11/04/09 “Nah Stan, a stern letter of warning...or maybe we need to learn to "live with the coyotes. You know this vicious mean streak in you people is nasty. Rather we should send negotiators to maybe cut their attacks to "one or two" a year. Or recognize their right to attack in defense of our encroachment.” 1:43:44 PM 11/04/09 “Grem....I hunted pheasants in Huntington a few years back. I remember that it was very close to the U.S border.....” 3:41:20 PM 11/04/09
