On every other forum if you ignore someone it just deletes their posts and quotes from the threads, there is no little + sign that shows up hundreds of times for he who must not be named being ignored. I think the way Matt implemented it was bad, if he had done it the other way no one would ever know they were ignoring the bad ones and forget about them.”

“Ignoring is the only option and its generally a poor solution.

Think of TT as your neighborhood, or work place or a social setting while shopping etc...You can only ignore the crazy guy with walmart bags on his feet screaming his lungs out for so long, especially when he is absolutely everywhere interjecting, derailing, sidetracking and intentionally trying to gain attention. That will push normally mellow folks like NA and many others to their limits and they respond. Its about a community standard.

You can call it group think, or some other label but the reality is often times people will come to the same conclusion without a conspiracy or agenda. They are simply sick of it.

The community here is being told by some of the mod staff that they are the problem. Thats akin to blaming a class of students for disrupting class when they call out the class loud mouth.

TT has historically been a place for meeting people with a focus on trips etc... Thats changed as all things do, but is this (at least what we had had prior to the timeouts) what anyone wants?

Isnt the point of moderation to maintain the standards and rules of the owners while at the same time keeping traffic and hits up? Many go on about group think (not my buzz word) but isnt moderation just being a group think enforcer for demand media?

And before the expected response of "you cant stop talking about him while he's gone"...dont forget people still talk about hitler and stalin not because they are missed or admired but because they changed things for the worse. TT has a pretty good collective memory.

If ignoring meant not having constant reminders and annoyances it would work. As its set up its half ass at best.
