I've been thinking.....
I'm seriously considering doing a suvivorman hike. You know, by myself with nothing but a canteen and a knife and a bic lighter. I know it's crazy but I'm intrigued by the idea of true survival. I guess I just want to see if I could do it. I'd go in the warm months, so there'd be food and I wouldn't freeze with hypothermie...I wouldn't do stupid sh1t like Bear Grilles does, like going into caves and climbing up rock faces.

Anybody ever done anything like that?

I did it once with the scouts. Our troop was split into 2 kids teams, we were given 25 foot of paracord, a good sized piece of thick black plastic sheeting, our scoutknife, and our sleeping bags. We were dumped at random places out of sight from each other, shown the central scout masters location, and given 2 hours to create a shelter and gather wood. We were then given 2 matches and told good luck.

It was tons of fun

Was that an "Order of The Arrow" deal? I've heard of them doing something like that...

No, my OA ordeal was alot "weirder"

They dropped us in the woods about 25-50 yards apart, without anything around 10pm-midnight. Stayed out there until sunup. Was given a boiled egg, and 12 oz of OJ for breakfast. Then given a work project that lasted most of the day. Couldn't talk for 24 hours or you were taken home.

I've always wanted to do something like that but allow myself only the things I could fit in my pockets.

I used to do that kind of thing when I was a teenager. I had one of those suvival knives with some stuff in the handle. I would put little pieces of thin plexiglass where the sharpening stone went, that makes starting a fire very easy even when its damp. Food wasnt bad because I usually followed the creek. Sleeping was the worst, its very uncomfortable with nothing. I always thought it was fun.

I honestly can say I've never done anything like it. I'd do it, but would probably just end up starving and sleep deprived. Hey, kinda like Les!

Food would be more plentiful in the fall, methinks. Nuts, anyways.

I'd be up for something like this. There's plenty of wild game (and water) up here so I'd like to do it during a fall hunting season. I can fit my slingshot in my pocket!

Ever been in a tent that leaked?

Remember how friggin miserable it was when everything got wet?

Now imagine sleeping in a mud hole.

I will stick with the gear. If I want to be miserable, I will go to a U of F football game.

I never miss Man v wild but he does stuff that's too scrtpted...

Chili I hear ya but you could build a shelter out of saplings and moho bark. Actually that shelter Bear built in Alamaby was pretty sweet!

Ok, back to bed, I thing I got the swine flu...

It's a hell of a lot easier to build a shelter out of 80 sf of syl nylon.
