The Phoenix Society for Burn survirors
As many of you know, I was badly burned early in '04 and spent almost 2 months in an induced coma. I was encouraged to apply for disability, told I'd likely never eat normal food again (due to damage from smoke inhalation) and that my backpacking plans would have to be shelved. While I was fighting to get my life back, the Phoenix Society provided a lot of support. People who'd lost limbs, family members and were burned well beyond recognition offered me fellowship and support. I started a charity walk as a way to give back to a wonderful organization and to be a part of the incredible work they do.

I just came back from our annual World Burn Congress - it is amazing to see how people who see to have lost "everything" still have so much to give. Last year 2 Iraqi vets who were burned in IED attacks came, this time they returned - but bringing 30 others with them.

So - please donate to the cause, join my walk, join the cause and conisder walking or raising some money yourself.

Any easy way to donate is at

https://www.causes.com/fb/donations/new?cause_id+302329&fundraiser_id=14996510&m+a0036bfo

If you are a member of facebook, please click "Back to Team PedXing's Walk for Burn Survivors" and join the cause - you don't ahve to donate to join.

One nice thing about causes is that all the money goes directly to the charity, except for the credit card fee that vendors pay whenever you use a credit card (often less than the cost of a stamp and an envelope).

Plese email me if you prefer to send a check (made out to "Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors).

Thanks Stovie. The conference had a record attendance - over 900. They also brought be on stage to give me an award for my efforts - efforts that have had some support here at TT.

Ped: Going through the "Back to Team PedXing's Walk for Burn Survivors" on Facebook leads to "http://www.firstgiving.com/teampedxing" and ends in the message: "This fundraising page is no longer accepting donations." Must be last year's page?

I don't like the idea of sharing all my photos and friend's info that I have to agree to when clicking your "causes" link above. Is there another way to donate online?

This is a great cause and I'm sure you'll recieve a lot of support from the TT community.

Violin: I posted a correct link and you should be able to donate without logging onto facebook.

There are two other ways to support the Phoenix Society and TeamPedXing:

1: Go to https://www.phoenix-society.org/waystogive/donations/ - under “type of gift” select “New England Walkathon for Burn Survivors” and check the box for “tribute or memorial gift.” On the next page, put my name where the form says “Please designate this gift in the name of” and enter the name of my team where it says “To remember, honor or celebrate a person or event.” I also ask them to put my name and email address in the name and address for the person to notify slot.

2. I do have a new firstgiving page which I'm not promoting because this year they are taking 7.5% for processing. Basically I put it there because it was easy to set up and there is an odd chance that someone is committed to firstgiving.

PS: I think I included the old firstgiving page for information purposes, but I'll have to check.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have any disposable income at the moment but it's sincerely good to hear from you Peddy. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Strat. There's been times when all my money was tied up in groceries and a rent deposit and there's a lot of that going around.

I'm doing the Walkathon for Burn Survivors again this year. Anyone who will be in the Boston area October 9th is welcome to come, walk and have some good food. And, of course, your donation would be greatly appreciated. The Phoenix Society and Burn Survivors of New England really do change the lives of burn survivors and their families for the better.

You don't have to have a facebook account to donate, just click "continue without signing in to facebook."
