How does the crucifixion count as an appropriate sacrifice? Jesus spent a few hours, maybe a day, in agonizing pain; but it was no greater pain than millions of others have suffered. If Jesus really is God, then He knew exactly what was happening, and exactly how long it would last. When it was done, He supposedly ascended to heaven and became the all-powerful ruler of the universe. This is infinitely greater compensation than even the faithful will receive, and infinitely less torture that the damned will receive.

i am not that smart when it comes to christianity, but i think it has something to do with the fact that jesus was the son of god and was free from sin. so it wasn't HOW he was sacrificed, it was who he was that made him an "appropriate sacrifice".

oh light that blinds,
I cannot see,
look out for me...

Oh I'm high alright, but not on false drugs! I'm high on the REAL
thing: Powerful gasoline, a clean windshield, and a shoe-shine!

I'm pretty well convinced that almost everything reported about Jesus in the New Testament is untrue although some little bit of the truth is included in order to fool the gullible.

Jesus was killed, not because of who he was but because of what he taught. What he taught has been nearly completely hidden by history but it must have been that all or almost all people who were ever born into this world will receive salvation in the hereafter. By doing this, the Creator ultimately defeats the Destroyer. The Creator sent a man (Jesus was just a man) with a special message. The messenger was killed. Most all of the thousands of first-hand witnesses of the message were shortly killed and the Destroyer working thru Saul of Tarsus using the written word hijacked the message of Jesus in order to transform a mere man into the Hebrew messiah and to alter the message of Jesus from simple mercy to a 'works based religion (that could be taxed)'.

After all, if no one had fear of eternal damnation upon dying, how could the Jewish authorities, or the Roman authorities for that matter, keep the public in fear and so be able to extract taxes from said people?

In the end we have to ask, does it really matter? Acording to the religion Jesus was born into and that he followed he wasn't even a sacrifice, he couldn't have been a sacrifice and another human can not pay for the sins of another. Does this mean his death had no meaning? Of course not. If someone believes he was G-d's only son and he died for their sins and they live a better life because of that belief then more power to them. If they are a better person than before they were believers it is a good thing and pleasing to Hashem IMHO.

It was about Jesus being the all-powerful ruler of the universe before he let us kill him.

Interested in seeing a reference for what hillsidedigger had to say. You don't come up with something like that on your own.

You need to let the libbies around here know that. It would greatly reduce the number of religionists I have to interact with.

Libbies are so silly
KATY PERRY PRAYED FOR BIG BREASTS

Katy Perry used to pray for bigger breasts.

The 'I Kissed a Girl' singer spent hours during her childhood begging God for an almighty bust.

The 24-year-old star - who now has a sizeable chest - revealed: "I remember really vividly kneeling by my bed as a nine-year-old, saying my prayers and asking God to give me boobs that were so big that if I laid on my back I wouldn't be able to see my feet.

"Eventually that request was granted. A bit of divine intervention displays the power of prayer!"
