This will be the url to track our trip via SPOT. I practiced with this locally and it should work. There should be data on here by late Saturday evening 8/8. Prior to that the page should just read "no messages to display". Once there is data on the page select "satellite" instead of "map".

For those of you that are familiar with Google Earth, take a waypoint off this page and transfer it to Google Earth. You should then be able to rotate the map to see the terrain from a side view....cool in mountain.

Have a great trip!

Used my friend's SPOT on a 6 day trip. I thought I did everything right but only sent 3 signals out of 11 attempts. Practice to make sure you know how to work the thing...you can't tell if a signal got through.

Chinmusic has a handheld SPOT. This is used for tracking and emergency signal only, not used as a GPS. There are 4 different messages that it can send. As soon as they got to Anchorage they sent out a SPOT check. This is a test of the device and can be used as a waypoint. Then as they travel there is a tracking mode that sends a signal every 10 minutes. Those of us left behind can watch as they make their way across glaciers and up mountains. There are two emergency messages, one to preset family or friends for supplies and such and then finally the 911 message that alerts all authorities to search and rescue. It's pretty cool. I told Jackstraw to make sure he was discreet when he did his business because we would all be watching.

Hope this helps.

Well,
Seems that Chin has got the "Spot" on tracking mode and it is sending out their location automatically!!

As of 5 minutes ago they were heading up hill towards Tumble creek. They did some back tracking earlier, might have hit a big pile of Moraine (Thousands of rocks the size of basketballs and bigger) I’m not sure if they were planning on crossing Tumble creek er not. If it’s left ta Fridge they’ll try and get to the other side.

I am gonna try and get my mapping software ta plot their progress. If that works I’ll post some maps of their location.
See ya later.

Man oh man does Alaska have some great hiking. Easy cross country, almost like walking on a golf course. No bugs. No rain or snow. Perfect 70F weather. Saw a ton of animals, almost had a grizzly licking peanut butter out of my hand. Everyone should backpack Alaska. The bush plane took us to 7500ft and we ended at 3000ft, all easy downhill walking. Already signed up for next year.

I made it to my house late last night. I've only had time to take my wet, STINKY boots out of my suitcase.

I haven't had the chance to even look at my pics or data.

My pics are sweet. All gear put away too, cleaned house before the trip, so that was nice to come home to. The deer did a number on my garden and the bear took a limb out of my apple tree.
