Trail Days 2010
“After having missed the last 4 Trail Days, I am bound and determined to do the next one right. I am going to start at Dickey Gap (near Troutdale) the Friday or Saturday before, and take 4 or 5 days to get to Damascus, arriving Tuesday afternoon, so I can be there when it starts on Wednesday, and then stay until it ends on Sunday. The mileage will be 10 - 12 miles per day.

“Crank call time? ;-)”
“I'm interested, however, I don't want to get into Damascus before Thursday. There isn't really anything going on before then, plus you can't get into the campgrounds before Thursday morning.”
“I know wildbill wants to hike in next year. I may, but I don't think I can get the time off”
“unless I'm dead by then I'll be there on wed.. before 12”
“I definitely want to hike to Damascus. Right now I am planning on starting at Massie Gap, which is only about 36 miles (I think). It all depends on how many days I can get off from work.”
“Sounds good! I'm a definite maybe.”
“mb, i couldnt find massie gap in my wingfoot. what highway is it at?”
“It's in the Grayson Highlands SP, near Mt. Rogers. It's a parking lot.”
“I am a definite maybe. ;)”
“I decided to join this trip too.”
“whats wrong with this thread?”
“i wanted one linked to the main trail days trip page”
“If everything goes as planned, I will make this trip.”
“which trip does this one link too?”
“click and find out”
“THIS THREAD is linked to my trip, the actual hike”
“Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant you wanted a thread to your traildays trip thread. Reading too fast, my bad.”
“I have already put in for the time off. It looks like both my kids are planning on coming with me again. You all have corrupted them, lol. They seem to think that trail days are fun or something like that.”
“THIS THREAD links to the hike
THE OTHER THREAD links to trail days”
“I'm not going to be able to start the trip on the 8th. That will be my travel day. I can meet up with you on Sunday somewhere along the trail.”
“we're not going to start hiking until the 9th”
“Some of us slower hikers may need to get a day head-start.”
“iffin thats what you want”
“I like your hiking style wildbill. Starting your day with head sounds interesting. Can I borrow your wife?”

what does the face of a satisfied man look like?
“Is that a knife in her hand?”
“why does crash have pics of this?”
“i dont. fridge does”
No that is not a knife (thank goodness) it is the side of her pillow. We had just finished eating lunch and I was taking a nap on my foam pad. She decided to try to fit on the mat with me.”
“I got the ok from my boss to take the whole week off. WHOO HOO!!”
“Sweet. We shall meet again.”
“Chin, you might want to drive a car other than the Prius to the trailhead. The site of a reliable hybrid Toyota might cause someone signed up on this trip to go nuts and run it over with his hummer in honor of GM.”
“Lately I find myself thinking about mountains, meadows, ponies, white blazes, warm breezes, good friends, camp fires.......”
“I have tried to talk Gem into going on this trip, but she just started a new job and there is no way she can take the time off.”
“Someone's got to pay taxes and fund my retirement.”
“What do you think about starting at Fox Creek Trailhead on Sunday. That puts me 40 miles from Damascus. We can do ~9 miles each day and get into Damascus late morning-early afternoon on Thursday.
Has anyone done anything about transperation on Sunday? Where is everyone planning on staying Saturday night?”
“I have called Mt Rogers and reserved a shuttle for Sunday Morning at 9 am. Let me know if you are interested in going at that time. I've reserved it for 5 people, but will need to call with the exact total as we get closer.”
“looking at the guidebook, it doesnt appear we will be missing much of anything by cutting out dickey gap to fox creek, and 10 miles per day is still a healthy hike. the only thing is, day 1 has to be short because we would have to camp at wise shelter (no camping allowed in grayson). wise shelter to damascus is 33 miles, which is still do-able (IT'S DO-ABLE!) in 3 days.
those who still want to do the full distance can start a day earlier and meet the others at fox creek”
“on a related note, if anyone doesnt want to sleep in the shelter, then we have to make camp just before grayson and wise shelter. there are a couple of creeks where that is possible”
“I just want to know what transperation is.”
