“Looks like about an eight mile row. I could ride the tide down the intracoastal from the park launch, then cut due southish down the creek to the southern tip of the island - near the campsite.

The alternate route would land me on the opposite end, where the tide direction would become unfriendly.

Then again, I could bring my 14' Creekcraft w/Evinrude motor :) Hmmm... It would be kinda nice to have a motorized shuttle on hand...

“I see. I was thinking the aerial photo on page one was the entire island, with the campsite at the bottom. I see now that the photo is of the N third-or-so, with the campsite near the bottom of the photo.

I'll check about keeping a boat moored/beached in the vicinity of the ferry wharf. Parking in that vicinity would make for the same walk. Motoring behind the ferry would show the way, too.

Understandably, stewards impose great restrictions on boating to and around limited access islands. If the pets and I have to jump through more hoops than a circus dog, I will likely forego this trip.

Boats can be moored at the bulkhead, but not the pier - no surprise.

Dogs not allowed in NC Park group camps. Hmm.

“Ahh, this reminds me of planning to go to Stockton Island in the Apostle Islands off Wisconsin's "Northern Coast." Had a trip for 12 people there over 4 days/3 nights on Fourth of July weekend. Oh yeah, trees are good! ;-P Am trying to decide on Labor Day plans... maybe I should just go back there. You go once... and you'll go again. Fabulous!

OK, go back to discussing gnats and blistering, relentless sun and how to get the beer there and keep it cold. (I took a rolling cooler to Stockton... and the big orange juice jug frozen full of water kept it cold, plus ice... and that was even after I hit a tree root on the trail and dumped a little ice. Blasphemy!!) Course, there they go in these big bearproof metal lockers that help keep them cool.

Eh, your trip sounds fun... but too far... Hey gals, watch out for that big tent and its erection!!! It's a wolf in big tent clothing!!!

It's North Carolina at the beach...check around to see about beach chairs for the disabled (Ballon tires for the sand)..bet you could rent one for a weekend for a reasonable fee......”
