Adena Trace Checkup
Hey all!
New thread since the trip has changed from a trail clean up to just a regular backpacking trip.
See ya later.

Hey Crash!!
I think you can meet us at either side of Fairfield causeway on Saturday PM, 5/2/09. We will probably be up thataway close to afternoon.

Ta get there, just use New Fairfield, In. in MapQuest and since your coming from Indy (kinda) and it will take you right to the causeway. I thinking you probably know how ta get there anyway. You can hike from there ta the dam with us and I’ll give ya a ride back to the causeway.

Here are the GPS coordinates to the west side trailhead just in case someone needs em:

N 39 degrees 30.360 minutes
W 85 degrees .056 minutes

See ya later

Hey Randall,

This sounds good. I haven't hiked this trail for a while. I could probably be at the dam by 5 on Friday, so let me know if you guys can get there earlier? Hiking the whole thing sounds good. Are there a lot of blowdowns on both sides?

Ok, now it looks like I'm not going make it down on Friday because of work. It looks like I'll be getting there around 10 on Saturday morning. I might just park at a different TH midway, and meet-up with guys? Where would you suggest?

Salem,
I would try the Midway Trailhead on the west side and take the Midway Trail to where it intersects with the Adena Trace and meets us there. You will probably get there before us.
Here are the GPS coordinates:

N 39 degrees 28.156 Minutes
W 85 Degrees .66 Minutes.

Here is a link to a map that will get you there.

http://good-times.webshots.com/album/567963816WCxarj

Just head south on Indiana 1 till you get to Reservoir Road and the map will lead the rest of the way.
See ya later.

This is my kind of trip, but sadly I won't be able to make it. I have the Indy Mini Marathon on Sat., which has occupied much of my time. Besides this trip will be more fun in August when the spiderwebs are in full bloom! Have fun. Be safe, and don't let Randall powder the fish....

Hey Jerbear!!
When are you comming down??? The basic plan is to start out on Friday around 6:30 PM or so Eastern time at the parking lot that is located on the on the south west corner of the lake at the Dam.

Here are the GPS coordinates for this parking lot:

N 39 Degrees 26.265 Minutes
W 85 Degrees 063 Minutes.

Here are directions if ya don’t have a GPS:

The dam is just east of the State Road one (Indiana 1) and 101 intersection in Brookville, IN. (Ya can’t miss this one. If you do stop and ask anyone, they all know where this is at) Park by the Picnic Shelter restrooms (there’s only one shelter)
If you want to use any of the online mapping softwares (Mapquest or something like it) to find the dam and trailhead you should type in Brookville, In. and that will get ya your Dam directions, LOL.

The trailhead is at the west corner, just 1/4 mile north of the top of the dam, just where the woods start!!

Here are the GPS coordinates for this trailhead:

N 39 Degrees 26.581 Minutes
W 85 Degrees .333 Minutes

We would then hike north along the west side until dark, making camp someplace on the trail near lakeshore.

I am thinking about going in to Battle Point ealier and camp there, thats about 2 hours north of the Dam. I will set up just off of the trail and hang a Chem light for you late commers, lol

See ya later.

saturday, i have new student orientation at iuk. i will call you when i get done, some time mid-afternoon. ill call you again a couple of hours later when i get close to the trailhead. we can then figure out where i will meet you

Hey all!

Attila called the Hoosier Hiking Council and the told him that they removed all the blow downs as of 3/28/2009. They also did some rebuilding on several of the switchbacks.

Some folks from the HHC will be hiking the west side same as us on Saturday. We might even meet them. I’ll bet Suzanne tries to get some money from us!!! LOL

Yep!!
Sad case!!
Ok Coyote, well catch ya later.
Crash seems to regressing technologically!! I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed! Jerbear said something about it as well. LOL.

But seriously, this is gonna be a muddy one boys!!! I am considering my Yax Trax as a real option. Mostly depends on Friday’s weather I guess! It is very wet up here and most of the woods have some standing water in them. Wolf Creek might just be a challenge as well as Salt Well Creek. They both can rise really fast in a good soaking rain. There is a bridge that we could use on Wolf Creek if it proves too high, but that would entail some bushwhacking to get to it. Salt Well can be walked around if necessary.

There ya go, a little drama for ya.
See ya later.
