Just how hare-brained an adventure is this trek?

one night of camping will be car camping and the second night will be an easy hike into camp. The hiking from camp will be strenuous bushwhacks, but if you're not up for that, hanging out in camp would be an option.

Any chance we can throw Vly into the mix? I need that one and it is not far from Halcott and isn't Vly sort of right there when you get Halcott?
If we drove up Friday car camped where are you thinking?

Vly goes with Bearpen and the two together took a full day. I don't think it is hikeable from Halcott. Driving, Halcott and Vly aren't far apart.

Balsam is possible. That is sorta near Double Top. Did you get Eagle too? That is next to Balsam, with a lesser peak between them.

Yup got those, the bushwack from Balsam lake mtn over Graham to Doubletop to Big Indian mtn with Pennsy was one of my favorite hikes. The col between graham and dbl top was pretty cool, it was so narrow and deep that you could almost touch both mountains.

It would be cool to find the plane crash on Doubletop GPS Coordinates N42 01.462 W74 31.460
Pennsy and I looked for it of a little while but had to keep moving to get to the biscuit brook LT.
There is also a WWII bomber supposedly crashed up there also but I couldn't find any info.

that would be cool to find.

Crazypace and I got lost between Graham and DT, that's why we didn't get it. There was a horrendus fog and the stinging nettles were terrible.

Damn, I just looked up that trip Pennsy and I did it was in 2005, I must be getting old. We did it in May and the weather was pretty good. Doubletop should be pretty easy coming from Big Indian you follow the Catskill park border most of the way, i remember seeing no trespassing signs. The woods should be pretty clear, I hope it doesn't warm up enough for the black flies.

Ok, I'm in as a maybe... I need to make a few arrangements first...

If I go I won't be getting there until very late Fri/early Sat so I will have to catch up with you there...

These will be my first two Catskills Peak Bags, so it would be fun...

The plan is to carcamp in a designated camp site. I emailed details about how to find the site so they are not posted to the public. If you are interested in going and have not received my email, let me know and I will forward you the email.
