“It was a majestic place....spectacular too. Everything Jerbear promised and I met two new trail mates...Cow Patty and Gooral...as always so great to hike with Jerbear, Baume 66 and Big Poppa....
I would go back for sure....just magnificent.

Here are some of the pics i took which is just one of the reasons why i am always last in camp...first i have to merge...then take a pic....and then give thanks....

“Well, I was packing as light as I could and using an Esbit stove for cooking. Sorry, neither of those goes well with making fudge, baking pineapple upside down cake, lemon blueberry cake, brownies, or fruit cobbler. Y'all will just need to come hike some midwestern terrain with me :)”

“Nice pics, looks like you have a great trip. Our route was a month earlier, but still no mosquitoes. We started at Petit, camped at Farley, Edna, Cramer, and were at the trail to Redfish on day 4, and kept going to Alpine Lake, Baron, and Sawtooth Lakes. Pic pics are on facebook, which I think anyone can see.

i definitely want to come back there again...i love it..hike to a lake, hike over a pass and down into another lake, for days and days....just fantastic!
i am interested in that caldera stove you use...did you make it or did you buy it somewhere.....looks like the perfect setup for cooking the trouties one might catch..

I liked Stanley too.. stayed in a cowboy hotel in a room with a view of the Sawtooth Range.......
I had dinner with old friends in Boise and they said that Stanley was the coldest spot in the US in winter...I wondered why there were snowshoes in my room....:)

Jo yes I did see the friendly ranger.Not as friendly as I thought she would be. She approached me as I had tied a rope accross the trai to let someone know that we were camped itn the vicinity.Said it would spook the horses. Have been there twice now and have not seen a horse yet. Lammas yes. I had just come out of the lake at hell roaring,in my black armor all shorts. She would just look me in the eyes. Very attractive. How long has she had the german shepherd? yo bear!”

“Om, the Caldera is made by Trail Designs (http://www.traildesigns.com/caldera-tt.html). The one I used on our 50 mile hike was the TiTri (titanium, three fuel options). It can use the alcohol stove, esbit tablets, or wood. My Evernew 1.9 L cookset has a fry pan lid that is non-stick, so its great for frying a bagel in oil, a fish or two, and veggies. However, if you use wood the fry pan gets all blackened, as one would expect. Its a great stove/windscreen.

I've hiked a lot in the Sawtooths and never seen the friendly ranger, that I know of.
