I know you said the trip is full but I always like to test limits. I have a friend in Idaho I want to visit and it would be fun to tag a backpacking trip on to a visit with her...

under 8 you can self register. Over 8 you must go and get permits. We will not be there in time to do that sat and i believe they are closed on sundays. Theymay be closed on Sat and sun. this is late season for them. the lodge shuts down that weekend.

We recently had about 20 people on a trip in the Sawtooths. We divided into two parties of about 10, and did a loop in two directions simultaneously. One group found the trail register out of permit forms, the other group filled out a permit at their trail register. We didn't see a ranger on the 4 day trip. If I were you I'd just sign in as two groups, and do parallel routes.

Fun Flights
Yo Bear... Check out Frontier Airline. I hear they have some great deals out west. Specially on the return flight! If you don't care about your time, your luggage, your sanity, they're the airline for you. Ask for Eileen, she's the best! I'm guessing she's through with her training by now!

I got my gear out of storage, so everything is good. Long story, but I was close to bailing on this trip. I am trying to buy a house and things are not going well. I am still going to be there hell or high water.

Jerbear, I will send you my final flight schedule next week. I am sure they will change it at least one more time before we depart.

Does anyone know where to get a patch of Sawtooth? With the agenda that we have, I am wondering if we are going to have enough time to stop and look. I try and get one for every trip.

I am also going to bring my fly rod. Is there an opportunity to get a licenses? If not, I will just "fly under the radar"

Just in case anyone was even a little bit worried about this trip, don't be. You may not know this, but Jerbear is a bonified, honest, Teton National Park Jr. Ranger, examined, certified and patched. It can't get any better than that. Yo Bear!

Have fun. Wish I was with you....

Has your trip happened yet? We finsished ours, an 8 day trip with 4 adults and 3 scouts. One parent joined us halfway through the trip.

We started at Petit Lake, and headed to
Toxaway lake, or a lake near Toxaway, then to
Edna, via Edith lake, then to
Cramer, then to
Alpine, then to
Baron. From Baron, we hiked 10 miles to Sawtooth, descending 2500' on the way, and ascending 2600' back up to Sawtooth lake.

We had no mosquitoes, we caught a few fish, and nobody got hurt. Great trip with incredible scenery. As we entered the wilderness area, the registration box was out of permits, so we hiked the whole way with no permits, and didn't see any rangers, and few other people. Bob

wish I could join you! There are no fires on the Alice Toxaway Loop, so I took that to mean fires are OK in other places. Cramer is bootiful, with camping between the two lakes, with a neat water fall between the two lakes.

Camping at Toxaway is either at the western end, in what looks like large horse camp areas, but about midway there is a rocky peninsula jutting out in the lake about 75 feet. On either side of the peninsula, and at the base of the peninsula are nice camping areas.

We didn't go to Ardeth. We went from Toxaway via Edith to Edna, and caught some fair sized fish at Edna.

Its all nice country, you will enjoy.

We got 26 degrees in July at Toxaway lake last year. Last week it never broke 32. Its the freezing tempts that kills off the mosquitoes.

33 pounds with food for how many days? That sounds nice and light.
