Cumberland Gap

“Spend the Memorial Day weekend at the Martin's Fork Cabin exploring Sand Cave, views from White Rock, and hopefully a private tour of the Hensley Settlement.

The elk that were released in KY a few years ago have migrated into the park so there is a good chance to see some.

Bunks in the cabin are limited but there is a large area for tents and trees for the hammock hangers or you could throw down on one of the porches.

For dog packers this park is open to your best hiking buddy.”

“Yeah.... you were up there for the Foggy Campout, right Sticks?   I needed a GPS to cross 30 ft of open ground for that one.

The field at Martin's Fork was the scene of the crime for Titanium Chefs III and IV.”

We were even lucky and caught a ranger giving a tour of the Hensley Settlement and they let us tag along a bit.

“Two Titanium Chef events were held at the Gap, it's a great place to backpack, I'll find my pics and post 'em for ya.”

“The NPS has reopened the Chadwell Gap trailhead by building a parking area on our land. This cuts approximately 2 miles of the hike up the mountain and a 30 minute extra drive to the trailhead.

I have reserved the cabin for Friday through Monday morning. At this point there are 4 spots left for bunks in the cabin but room for lots-o-tents and plenty of trees for the hammock crowd.”

“As of now there are five going on this trip.

For those of you that don't know the Chadwell gap trailhead has been reopened so this is only about a 3 mile hike in.

Much better than the Ewing trailhead!”
