i will neither confirm nor deny this fact.

...it looks like I have to work today, which stinks because it's a company holiday... but that means I can take next Friday off which is actually a good thing. So it looks like I'll be leaving late Thursday evening or Friday morning early for the Red. Not sure what I'll do when I get there but of others are going to be down there Thursday or want to share a ride with me that would be cool.

looks like i am going to drive down thursday night of friday morning. it will depend on when i can get off work and how tired i am on thursday.

i really need a good belay if we plan to climb trad. have any of you done any climbing since the last time we met, specifically belaying a leader? i may ask one of the gym rats to come with me. if not then we can climb sport or i can find an area we can top-rope. you still need someone to belay a leader if you climb sport but i am more confident if i don't have to place gear. i guess i could bring my silent partner and solo climb using a novice belayer as a backup. it will work out.

I will be happy to help you with belaying. I have taken lessions on it at the gym and feel like I have it down pretty good. I have belayed for Stomper when she has gone to the gym. However, I do not have my own harness. I might be able to rent one here locally. Just let me know.

Well, I thought I could rent a harness but they rent everything but the harness. Does anyone near the gorge rent them?

possibly true north or miguels

Nobody is going to rent a harness, out in the gorge. You could belay with out a harness, if you just wanted to belay. The belay device can be tethered off of a nearby tree or another source, fixed pro in the rock can work also.

Lol! Nobody rents gear when they climb with Yogisan! I have tons of everything in all sizes. I pick up shoes etc in different sizes for this reason.

weather forecast looks pretty good. no rain on friday (as of right now), so looks like a good day to tackle indian staircase and cloudsplitter (thats the main draw for me this weekend). if the forecast changes to wet, i'll figure out a hike that doesnt involve scrambling on rock formations. i think maybe the loop in the north part of clifty wilderness. if its not even hiking weather, i'll work friday morn and show up late friday afternoon

windigrrl, breakfast sounds great! i'll take your backcountry experiments over restaurant food any day!

fyi, when i solo lead climb with my silent partner (which isn't that often) I use a fixed anchor at the bottom. it's a great system and i am very confident with it. it wouldn't work so well if the silent partner wasn't good about feeding out rope without binding. the friction clutch/clove hitch setup on that thing is an amazing piece of engineering. it's motion is so smooth, especially when you get a lot of rope behind you. if you want to talk about the thrill of lead climbing this is it!

JIm, I think I can belay for you. I can do what you taught Crash to do last time. The only problem I might have is knowing what to do if you get up real high and I can't hear or see you.
