Lets go to TN, or what about a different section of the Sheltowee besides the Red? It runs Northeast for something like 125 miles. I'm realy getting burnt out on the same places.” 12:58:15 PM 1/18/09 for captain crack 1:05:37 PM 1/18/09 “FO Crash. LOL! I knew that was coming, and as it happens, I'm reading about the Cumberland trail right now! I need to do some bushwhacking with map and compass though. You mentioned something about That. Would you be interested in putting a trip like that together w me?” 1:12:14 PM 1/18/09 “My goal this year is to do some new places. I've been in the Gorge so many times it's time to see what else is in that area. I want to do some WV hiking this year as well and do a few of the other places in Indiana and Kentucky I've never been to.” 1:17:43 PM 1/18/09 “Nigal, I was just thinking "what about WV". Got anything specific in mind?” 1:20:27 PM 1/18/09 “Somewhere with a view though. I'm not driving 500 miles for a green tunnel. I can get that 20 minutes from my house.” 1:22:11 PM 1/18/09 “I want to get to more places this year as well. I'm trying to be happy with local places while there's less daylight, but as soon as we get into spring, I'm looking for new places I can get to within a day's drive. I'm saving up on my vacation time so I can take long weekends.” 1:45:23 PM 1/18/09 “Long weekends for me are going to have to consist of Thurs-Sat trips. The GC in August, and a trip to the farm in AL while my oldest attends Space Camp this summer are going to burn ALL my vacation hours. Maybe while in LA I'll finally get out to the Walls of Jericho. That would be nice, and it'd make the trip a three-fer!” 1:54:40 PM 1/18/09 “The Manistee River Trail in Michigan is 325 mi from Indy, and is supposed to have good views.” 2:09:20 PM 1/18/09 “the east side does” 2:19:07 PM 1/18/09 “That aint bad. I'm mired in WV still. Thet have no good resources, and the state parks page doesn't have anything relating to hiking or back country camping. I did read some about Dolly Sods, but it does not sound like fun. "Don't go off the trails because you might find an unexploded mortar round" Good lord! What happens when you need to dig a cat hole, and you blow your azz off?!” 2:23:07 PM 1/18/09 ““The Manistee River Trail in Michigan is 325 mi from Indy, and is supposed to have good views.” how about a bit further N; NCT - pictured rocks section? views 100%. :D” 2:45:29 PM 1/18/09 “Fridge does lots of trip at Dolly Suds. Check with him. Also the Cranberry wilderness is good. I've been there once. Both are good locations to car pool to.” 2:48:36 PM 1/18/09 ““That aint bad. I'm mired in WV still. What happens when you need to dig a cat hole, and you blow your azz off?!” cranberry wilderness but not many views there. you also have the Allegheny Trail up north. http://www.trails.com/toptrails.aspx?area=10078” 2:51:06 PM 1/18/09 ““Nigal, I was just thinking "what about WV". Got anything specific in mind?” Dolly Sods or Otter Creek.” 5:22:26 PM 1/18/09 “Pictured Rocks sounds nice, but I think it needs to warm up a bit before I head that far north. I'm not equiped for anything more than 10 - 15 deg lows. Otter Creek may be good. Dolly Sods sounds like RRG with un-exploded ordinance lying about waiting for a stumbling drunk.” 5:46:32 PM 1/18/09 “I've hiked in 40 states now and Dolly Sods is my favorite area east of the Miss, I think it's one of the most unique and beautiful as well as different areas available to hike. It's classified as a wilderness now, but I hope that NPS will realize it's difference and beauty and take it over some day. It's the only place in the lower 48 where you get Canadian Tundra type flora, and trees that have branches on one side. Cranberry is nice, but it is a "deep wilderness" experience, where as the Sods can be that and have breathtaking views at the same time. We own a cabin near the Sods and I would not attempt a winter trip. One Feb we visited camp and got stuck since it snowed a couple of feet. Spring-fall is when I go to the Sods. However, it is completely different in winter but be prepared to get stuck. Otter Creek is also a deep wilderness, but of the three areas I have the least experience there. I've done every trail in the Sods and about half at Cranberry. We used to do a Sods trip every June/July that had gotten pretty big a couple times. 2007 2006 2005 2004 I'm down for a WV trip. And it's been ages since I've been to Deam so I really need to make myself go on this one...need new boots and a jacket though...” 7:24:10 PM 1/18/09 7:59:30 AM 1/19/09 “We need to find somewhere new. I'm realy getting burnt out on the same places. meangreen 12:58:15 PM 1/18/09 I have been wanting to get back to Savage Gulf in TN” 9:42:54 AM 1/19/09 cumberland - savage gulf “i'd be up for that sometime. hear it's cool and hard. -------------------------------- as to canadian tundra or whatever.. well cranberry glades are that too.. there are other areas such as that east of the Miss. R. besides Dolly Sods too.. NH i am thinking?? there is another place like that i visited too. sure can't recall exactly where though. ------------------------------ NCT.. i wasn't thinking of going up there now mg..lol earliest would be in may, latest sept.. although the shuttle bus doesn't run all of that time.” 12:09:02 PM 1/19/09 “I am thinking maybe April, I will have to see what the calendar holds. Been here twice, once a week after the right knee got cleaned out and once about 2 years ago. Love this area!” 5:30:36 PM 1/19/09 “YO BEAR!” 1:30:27 PM 1/21/09 “Hey, WK you gonna make this one? Been awhile. yo bear!!!” 1:32:10 PM 1/21/09 “My 6th anniversay with this hiking thing. I will be there unless something very bad happens. Mammoth Cave was the last, and we didn't even get to hike together.” 2:29:47 PM 1/21/09 “Well, it's not looking like a mobfest.” 6:01:37 PM 1/23/09 “There is still time” 7:42:57 AM 1/24/09 “nice motley crew we have assembled so far.” 8:05:40 AM 1/25/09 “It's on my calendar. The other day some lady posted on my blog that I should go backpacking. So I guess I will!!! :)” 5:41:43 PM 1/25/09 “So windy...what were you saying about a mobfest?” 7:46:49 AM 1/26/09 “Oh, just that this trip hasn't the status of a mobfest. Someone said that it would become that.” 8:02:36 AM 1/26/09 “Is a mobfest more than ten people confirmed?” 9:03:17 AM 1/26/09 “That sounds about right to me. We're almost there.” 10:16:54 AM 1/26/09 “It would be interesting to see what others think the definition of mobfest is.” 10:33:45 AM 1/26/09 “What time is it now in bloomington? I never remember if it is an hour later than Chicago. It is now 2:18 up here” 12:44:33 PM 1/28/09 “bloomington is on EST.” 1:00:13 PM 1/28/09 “What I thought. Hope to be on the road by 3PM EST on Friday. Got vacation time approved yesterday. I will bring some wood for Friday night so we can have a nice fire.” 1:19:33 PM 1/28/09 “Did the Deam get snow this past week?” 1:30:35 PM 2/04/09 “not sure but it's supposed to be 40 friday and 52 saturday so if it did it'll be gone” 1:35:49 PM 2/04/09 “Supposed to be warm up here as well. Areas east of us got over 2 feet of snow last night. That will be fun to watch melt” 1:37:02 PM 2/04/09 “Heck, the weather will change 15 times between now and then. lol” 2:41:54 PM 2/04/09 “This trip will be here soon. Sign up if you haven't yet.” 12:52:51 AM 2/10/09 “i think we have a good group. we don't need a whole lot more” 3:54:43 AM 2/10/09 “Yeah, ixnay on the iptray!” 4:03:19 AM 2/10/09 “i'd love to come on this one...a lot of my favorite TTers but my daughter turns 1 that weekend” 4:19:44 AM 2/10/09 “Hard to miss that. Going to have to get some good scotch or bourbon for this trip. last edited: 2/10/09 6:32:18 AM” 6:31:26 AM 2/10/09 “In Case y'all r wunderin who this is, it is Troy, everyone says i should have a trail name so i choose pug. I would like to join this trip, but it will depend on Dub, if he goes or not. Of course that is if it is ok with everyone else.” 1:51:25 PM 2/10/09 “it's an open trip. anything that is publicly posted, anyone is welcome to join” 1:56:33 PM 2/10/09 “Great, thank you Crash Bang” 3:59:50 PM 2/11/09 Jump to Page << prev
