this will be april 3-6, camping on fri, sat, and sun nights

if you cant come for the whole thing, it will be easy to leave early or come late. if you have to come late, i can give you directions to find the campsite

this hike starts at hayes trailhead, but does not take hayes trail. instead, bushwack east to where saddle creek meets the lake. then contour around the lake to the east side of the peninsula and camp at "the thumb". continue the next day to the mouth of axsom creek. there are a couple of abandoned homesteads in the area if youre interested in that sort of thing. the next day continue on to the east side of the lake. last day, hike out past camp peeper and finish at the firetower

coyote and i did an abbreviated version of this several weeks ago and had a blast. this time there will be less trail-hiking and more bushwacking

camp peeper is the pond by terrel cemetary. it was thus named by chinmusic

coyote820 and i found a lesser known homestead in a holler just off of axsom. theres not very much left, just the corners and a few miscellaneous stuff. i can show you on the map where it is

I remember that trip! Something like 11 or us that camped back there at the height of tree frog season. You had to scream at people sitting right next to you.

depending on the amount of precip. between now and then, there may be a long detour around Saddle Creek and its tributaries

um, I'm talking about the water extending more than a mile south of the cave. and being several feet deep-beyond the capacity of most gaiters! And I'm very familiar with bushwhacking in Deam!

nah. you should be able to find a crossing near frog pond ridge, at the farthest.

well, then, get ready to be wet, or we'll just be sure to cross way south. either way, bring plenty of dry socks

i dont know that we can avoid knee-(or higher) deep water. hiking frog ridge gets you around saddle creek, but you still have the tributary coming in from the southeast. THAT tributary can be avoided by coming from blackwell and getting on the east side of it before it gets deep, but then there is still one coming from the east, and lots of other small ones

i plan on bringing sealskinz, gaiters, rainpants, and a couple pair dry socks

we'll manage

i've had to back track before but not that far. you just have to use your eyes and you can find a spot to jump across.

the first night will be at the campsite that you and i found on the east side of the peninsula, the one that we said we should come back to some time. the second night would be the place we stayed at near the drum-banging fcktards. the third night would be that campsite you showed us when were paddling last summer, next to the trail that goes back up to camp peeper and the cemetary, or near that

Thinking about this hike, but it will just be for the weekend. Not sure at this point if I will drive down late Friday night, and hike in, or Saturday morning. Where exactly is the camp Friday night, and where will you be hiking Saturday morning, and camping?

Crash Banger
Crash Banger hope you got your car fixed and on the road Jake and I and a couple other boys are going to take their week of Spring Break and go down to Monroe for the whole week and kayak and canoe we are going to start our trek on Sunday March 29 either that morning or afternoon and we will camp at different campsites thru the week but would like to camp with you guys atleast on Friday and Saturday Night we will come off the water on Sunday Morning 4/5 I am selling the 2 smaller kayaks we have for $200 and Jakes kayak for $400 if you know anyone interested in buying one I know after the float trip you seemed like you might like to have a boat some time.I have a very bad case of Cabin Fever and I think this will be just what the doctor ordered for me to get out and get gone for the week and I traded my big canoes for a real nice solo lightweigh canoe and it will be more fun in a nice boat.

LET'S ROLL

Crash you coming in on Friday or Saturday we would like to camp with you all 1 night but I think we are putting in at Cutwright's boat ramp unless we change our mind and will need to be over near the peninusila on Saturday to make it out on Sunday if you don't come down until Saturday and camp at Axsom we'll just have to get with you another time or meet up up some time thru the day it would be too far to paddle out on Sunday.Camping on the Tumb would work good for us Uncle B would like to hook up with you he has lost about 55 pounds and wants to see if he can hang with the big dogs.

Crash I am going down for the week and would like to hook up with you all but if we can't we can't we are going to put in at teh Cutwright Boat Ramp on Sunday Morning the 3/29 and we are coming out on Sat the 4/4 so that means for us we need to camp somewhere on the peninusla it would be better if we camped on the west so we could get out easy I think we are going to Basecamp in the Pine Woods to the North of the Tumb for the week I think that would be a nice place and we would be sheltered if the weather got nasty on us but we are not planning on camping on the tumb it would be a long week going that far for wood all week but anyhow I am going to leave my name on the trip and if we see ya we see ya and if not we'll get you on the next one.

Windi I think this is our plan for now unless something changes I think Mike and B are wanting to still come down Friday Morning but I think they are coming out Saturday Also.Call me
