Whos all going to be on trail this weeke nd?

“Off to see my mother and little brother this weekend, but we will be on the trail next week!”

“We're heading to South Mtn. s.p. near Morganton for a little hiking tomorrow.”

“It is a great little place Tree...you will enjoy it!”

“The Falls are the highlight of the park & I'm sure they will be huge with the rain we have had.”

“Spent all of the morning and a smidge of the afternoon at South Mtn. state park. Wow. The high shoals falls are great, but the climb up is a bear. Much of it is somewhere between stairs and a ladder. Now once you're at the top above the falls it's a gorgeous area to play around, but that showed me how out of shape I am. The downhill on the other side was somewhere between quick and an eternity too. It was relatively quick but was an eternity of pain to my left knee. I'll be hobbling around for the next couple of days.”

“I should of warned you about the steps! They are horrible!”

“HPM found a description that mentioned "some steps." Those are more like a stepladder in areas. It was easier to lean forward and use my hands on higher treads than to stand upright and haul myself up in some sections.

We did meet a bunch of dogs on this trip. The big dogs were all cool and sociable; the football sized ones (and smaller) should have stayed home with their owners. We met a really nice german shepherd with the unfortunate name of Rex. He was rescue; his first owners wanted a fierce dog, and he's a big couch potato who just wants hugs and kisses. Even the dogs had issues in areas.

It looked like we just missed all of the rhododendrons blooming too. The kalmia (mtn. laurel) was just opening up.

Overall, I think this will be an excellent training area to get ready for the Chilkoot. Now, if those steps are open in the winter...”

“Doing a 14 mile AT - Hotel Trail (Old AT) loop on Saturday, followed by a TBD hike on Sunday...

Need to loosen up for a 50 mile trip over Memorial Day weekend....

Hopefully this gets me out of my funk....

“was going to do 21 miles....canoeing this weekend but our spouces, mine and my friend's are getting a little fed up of us being gone every weekend, plus the river is flooded, so we are all staying home this weekend lol”

“Might hit another local state park for some hiking, but we're not sure yet. I keep thinking there's something we're supposed to do this weekend, but it didn't end up on the calendar”

“I'm not quite up to 32oz's level. I'm trying to get in shape for a one day Presidential Travers in NH (23 miles and maybe 9K of elevation gain) - not a 50 mile weekend.

So, I'm planning on hiking the Wapack Trail Saturday (21.4 miles + a little extra due a re-route, but not as rugged or with the elevation gain of the Presidentials) and then doing a shorter hike close to home Sunday morning (5 miles). No bag nights though.”

“Well, looks like we're headed to Hendersonville this weekend. I forgot Laurel's going to be in a kid's only mtn. bike race. In fact, she's in a short race tonight.”

“I'll hike at least a little, not sure where or to what, but I'll be out.

Last weekend we hiked a short piece to Cub Lake in Rocky Mtn NP. Still a fair amount of snow up there, it was damp, drizzly and cold. Even snowed just a little bit on us.”

“the freeways around here are supposed to be all gridlocked all weeked (the whole carmageddon thing) so I'm gonna hit up a trail by my house and see where it goes”

“Headed off for a couple weeks of backpacking starting Sunday. I'll be bringing my bag nights up (only 4 so far this year).”
