Sugestions Please
My husband and I wanted to do a short hike (4 miles or so) by the light of a full moon either tonight or tomorrow night. We dont live too far from Denver and dont want to drive more than an hour. Perhaps in Indian Peaks Wilderness, RMNP??? Anyone have any suggestions..Thanks

We have decided on St Mary's Glacier In the Arapahoe National Forest. The glacier is suppose to be absolutely beautiful in the moonlight. Im sooooooooo excited!

Wasn't that glacier featured in the movie Red Dawn?

Hiya Evergreen.

Head up to Brainard Lake in Indian Peaks. The gate is closed, but park your car at the gate and either take a snowshoe trail or walk the road up to the Lake. It's about a mile from the gate.

It should be a beautiful evening. Walking last night in Longmont, all of the mountains were lit up by the moon. Strange for 9pm.

On the other side ( http://www.backpacker.com/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=623107219;t=9991114397 ), another group is heading toward the Hessie TH (other side of Nederland). They'll be parking where the gate is for the 4th of July TH.

They're a great group of folks. I've hiked with nearly everyone going, I believe.

Have a great time with whatever you decide to do! I'll be attending a Holiday Party that night....

Thanks for passing on the info. Ive iked in both of those areas. So many trails so little time. I might talk my husband into making a overnighter out of either one.

Longmont? I dont live too far from there. Are you here visiting? We should get together and hike

Thanks again

I just finished reading. St Mary's Glacier would be nice as well. :) I've not been up there yet.

Nope, live in Longmont. I just moved here a year ago from Ohio. Best move I've ever made.

Definitely! My e-mail is in my profile. Drop me a message sometime. :)

When do you leave for your trip? You're headed to the Caribbean, correct?

Ninja-Pa and I hiked to the bottom of St Marys Glacier last night. When we came upon the lake and the view of the glaicer the sight was beyond words. The moonlight reflecting off the snow and ice was increible. It was well worth the hike up. We didnt have snowshoes but managed just fine with our Yak Tracks. The moon was so bight we didnt evenneed our head lamps. I see more moonlight hikes in the future.

Sweet, evergreen. Sounds like a fantastic evening. I'll have to talk Geek into going up there on the next full moon. :)
