he's got pics of the well....he seems alright, some of the old timers might not like the spread of the location.

I'm not spreading the location, just showing pictures that I've taken.

This trip is going to be great!

You'll spread that location around the campfire or else! ;)

:) I didn't mean it like that. I meant I'm not telling everyone I see..not only to protect it but because it is a dangerous cave, especially the pit/cave that is near it. Certain people I don't mind giving the location to, like fellow hikers ^

He'll have the initiation to survive first right toph? That last one came out a bit late....

The initiation ties to your user name. For a name like Pully, the barnyard scene in "Cowboy Way," comes to mind. I guess a wild hog will have to do since there are no cattle in the Sipsey.

Sweet! I saw about 15 wild pigs when I was walking up Bunyan Hill road.
Pully

or hogs...whatever they are, they need to be dealt with..Those things are making a mess out of the forest.
Pully

it's THEIR home....
divinity
5:32:31 PM
2/03/09

It is not their home. People put them there for some reason or they escaped from a farm. They are ruining the trails and may attack someone if the person gets between a sow and a baby hog.

Pigs are very hard to keep penned up. They are very smart and strong.

I've never noticed a lot of acorn bearing oaks in the Sipsey. That's their main food in the wild around south MS. What are they living on? Roots?

I was kidding with you Pully. There are a handful of us on here who have been trying to extract the location of the Well from a couple of the locals who hold it close to the vest but all we ever get are vague hints and "clues". I actually have the lat/long of the entrance but have yet to lay my eyes on it.

Got your email about gear and will try to respond when I have a few more minutes than I have now but it may be worth while for you to pose your questions here in the meantime. Toughen your skin up a bit first tho ;)

Bama said if ya hear them....get in a tree FAST...lol

I guess they eat acorns, roots or pretty much anything they find.

lol they are..especially when you don't know they are there until you're right on top of them.

So...I've never been camping...don't own any camping gear.. I'm probably going to get some this weekend or sometime soon. Any suggestions besides a tent and sleeping bag? I have a small backpack that I use for day hikes.

We'll be at Brushy Lake Campground for the nights so not much in the way of quality camping eqipment is needed.

If you're car camping then I wouldn't sweat the gear too much. Someone will have an extra tent most likely. Get a couple of foam mats from Wal-Mart for the mattress, and just take blankets. I wouldn't make a bunch of gear purchases before the trip. Folks will likely have a mix of car camping and backpacking gear on hand. It'll be a good opportunity to see what people use, why they use it, and ask lots of questions.

If a tent doesn't show up you can rig a tarp and just sleep under the tarp. Rig it in an A-frame and you'll be fine. Really.

pully be careful of listening to dayhiker and stovestomper....they'll have you out there with 2 ziplock backs, a half a pepsi can, 1 shoelace, and a half a tootbrush. *wink*

I'm with ya D...Seeing so many copperheads in the RRG years ago was the reason I bought my first tent. I carried a 10X10 piece of plastic for the first 10 years I backpacked.

At the end of March I'll be driving back from Texas to my home in Pennsylvania. Am thinking about joining this camp/hike enroute home ...it looks like a nice one ...reminiscent of the trip I took to northwestern S. Carolina in Feb. '08 >>> http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/562536718gunggA. So I'll be in as a Definite Maybe.

Question: There seems to have been an issue about the dates ...has this event been confirmed for 3/26 - 3/29/09 ...? Thanks.

Stovie: Double Springs has a Subway?! And here I was just gonna Drive My Own Vehicle to the campsite.

toph: Thanks for confirming the dates.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
What with any uncertainties in my travel plans in March, possible cancellation due to uncooperative weather, me probably getting lost trying to find the place, etc., it would be good for me to have someone's cell phone number in case I need to call under said circumstances since I'll be away from home/computer most of March. Send via email if desired (radial_symmetry@yahoo.com).

With the number of bdays on and around this trip, I think it only fitting that Toph provide bithday cake (or if he's eager, some tail-made substitute) either Fri or Sat night.
