Kesha Rogers called for the impeachment of President Barack Obama as the centerpiece of her campaign for Congress, and on Tuesday she won the nomination of her party.

The Democratic Party.

It was no stealth campaign. Rogers shouted it from a sound truck that cruised the four-county 22nd Congressional District. She posted an 18-foot banner emblazoned with the message �Save NASA. Impeach Obama� on street corners. Her Web site is filled with videos and periodic policy statements documenting her stand.”

The descent of Barack Obama's regime, characterised now by factionalism in the Democratic Party and talk of his being set to emulate Jimmy Carter as a one-term president, has been swift and precipitate. It was just 16 months ago that weeping men and women celebrated his victory over John McCain in the American presidential election. The Democracy Corps-Third Way survey released Monday finds that by a 10-point margin -- 51 percent to 41 percent -- Americans think the standing of the U.S. dropped during the first 13 months of Mr. Obama's presidency.

"This is surprising, given the global acclaim and Nobel peace prize that flowed to the new president after he took office," said pollsters for the liberal-leaning organizations.

On the national security front, a massive gap has emerged, with 50 percent of likely voters saying Republicans would likely do a better job than Democrats, a 14-point swing since May. Thirty-three percent favored Democrats.

"The erosion since May is especially strong among women, and among independents, who now favor Republicans on this question by a 56 to 20 percent margin," the pollsters said in their findings.

A May 2009 survey by the pollsters found the public saw the Democratic and Republican parties as equally able to handle national security (41 percent trusted Democrats more, and 43 percent trusted Republicans more.) On conducting the war on terrorism, the two parties were tied at 41 percent.

The Democrats' gap on national security has widened on several other fronts:

� "Keeping America safe": Democrats now trail by 13 points (34 percent to 47 percent.) The gap was just 5 points in July 2008.

� "Ensuring a strong military": Democrats trail by 31 points (27 percent to 58 percent.)

� "Making America safer from nuclear threats": Democrats trail by 11 points (34 percent to 45 percent,) "despite the president's strong actions and speeches on steps to reduce nuclear dangers," the pollsters said.

The poll, conducted late last month, found "the administration's response to the Christmas Day terrorist attempt has contributed to the erosion."”

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - A union is condemning an effigy of President Barack Obama that was hung upside down by a teacher at a failing Rhode Island high school where he and all his colleagues were fired.
The teachers' union said Thursday that the unidentified teacher has verbally apologized to his students. It also said he has asked Central Falls Superintendent Frances Gallo if he may apologize in writing.

Gallo tells CNN that she discovered the effigy in the teacher's classroom Monday. She says that the Obama doll was about a foot tall and was hung from its feet from a white board.

She says it was holding a sign saying "Fire Central Falls teachers."

Obama had called the firings in Central Falls an example of holding failing schools accountable.

The president found his conversation with Baier “frustrating” because it focused too much on “process” for his taste. The irony is, if Obama’s Democratic colleagues supported his health care take-over, process wouldn’t be an issue. They don’t and thus it is. So it is important because it shows the leadership will change the rules in order to get what they want.

But the president proved Glenn Beck’s argument that the fundamental transformation of America has begun.

“We’re not transforming one-sixth of the economy all in one fell swoop,” Obama told Baier.

This implies that what is being bandied about is only the beginning, not the end. And that pattern of thought has emerged from Washington with similar statements from Sens. Tom Harkin and Sherrod Brown.

It is likely what persuaded Rep. Dennis Kucinich to flip from a ‘no’ to a ‘yes.’

Obama also promised that the legislation will be available on-line for “several” days before a vote. Congressional leaders set a vote deadline of this weekend, so that bill should appear within hours in order for the president to keep his word – unless that was a casual promise never intended to be kept, either.

Baier’s interview showed the president doesn’t know what’s in the bill, when it will be voted on or what it will do to the economy. Nevertheless, we have a crisis on our hands and a yet-to-be-seen fix must be passed. NOW!

The latest poll by Democracy Corps, the firm of James Carville and Stan Greenberg, has Republicans leading on the generic ballot among likely voters, 48 percent to 42 percent.

Deep in the poll, they ask, “Now, I am going to read you a list of words and phrases which people use to describe political figures. For each word or phrase, please tell me whether it describes Barack Obama very well, well, not too well, or not well at all.”

On “too liberal,” 35 percent of likely voters say it describes Obama “very well,” 21 percent say “well,” 21 percent say “not too well,” and 17 percent say “not well at all.” In other words, 56 percent of likely voters consider Obama too liberal.

When asked about “a socialist,” 33 percent of likely voters say it describes Obama “very well,” 22 percent say “well,” 15 percent say “not too well,” and 25 percent say “not well at all.”

In other words, 55 percent of likely voters think “socialist” is a reasonably accurate way of describing Obama

For many liberals, this is the summer of their discontent.


Already disappointed with President Barack Obama�s ability to deliver on campaign promises, they now contemplate a slowing economic recovery and a good chance of Republican gains in November � two developments that could make enacting Obama�s agenda even more difficult.


Two recent essays framed the debate raging within the progressive community over why the promise of Obama�s candidacy has not lived up to their expectations � and how liberals should proceed in what they fear will be difficult months ahead.


In a 17,000-plus-word piece published in The Nation on Thursday, journalist Eric Alterman calls the Obama presidency �a big disappointment� for progressives and blames a broken system in Washington that he says allows the minority party to rule with impunity � and special interests and big money to dictate legislative policy.

Regard for Obama is still higher than it is for members of Congress, but the gap has narrowed. About seven in 10 registered voters say they lack confidence in Democratic lawmakers and a similar proportion say so of Republican lawmakers.

Overall, more than a third of voters polled -- 36 percent -- say they have no confidence or only some confidence in the president, congressional Democrats and congressional Republicans. Among independents, this disillusionment is higher still. About two-thirds of all voters say they are dissatisfied with or angry about the way the federal government is working.

Such broad negative sentiments have spurred a potent anti-incumbent mood. Just 26 percent of registered voters say they are inclined to support their representative in the House this fall; 62 percent are inclined to look for someone new.

Democrats nationally remain on the defensive as they seek to retain both houses of Congress this fall. Registered voters are closely divided on the question of whether they will back Republicans or Democrats in House races. Among those who say they are sure to cast ballots in November, 49 percent side with the GOP and 45 percent with Democrats.

Overall, a slim majority of all voters say they would prefer Republican control of Congress so that the legislative branch would act as a check on the president's policies. Those most likely to vote in the midterms prefer the GOP over continued Democratic rule by a sizable margin of 56 percent to 41 percent.

Economic worries continue to frame the congressional campaigns. Almost all Americans rate the economy negatively, although compared with the depths of the recession in early 2009, far fewer now describe economic conditions as "poor." Only about a quarter of all Americans think the economy is improving.

Recent economic developments -- a declining stock market, problems in the housing industry and an unemployment report showing only tepid job growth in the private sector -- may have bruised the president's ratings.

Just 43 percent of all Americans now say they approve of the job Obama is doing on the economy, while 54 percent disapprove. Both are the worst, marginally, of his presidency. Even a third of Democrats give him negative marks here. And overall, intensity runs clearly against the president on the issue, with twice as many people rating him strongly negative as strongly positive.
