I had to take my name off the list. I'm having surgery a week before the trip. My doctor said I'll be in the hospital 3 to 5 days so I doubt I'll be recovered enough to make the hike. It sucks and I'm disappointed, but nothing I can do about it.

I am so sorry to hear that RichB. We will be thinking about you. I hope you recover quickly and get back out there soon.

I'll miss seeing everyone for sure. I thought at first I might be able to still make it, but when I looked at a calendar, it's just too close to being discharged from the hospital and the start of the trip. A few days isn't going to be enough time to recover.

Rich and all..

Not sure where exactly you live rich, but I'll be coming in from Allentown..

Does anyone want to meet for Breakfast/brunch somewhere in the area of the hike? I'm not sure if we have set an official kick off time for the event..

I'll be at work in nearby Bethlehem. Feel free to stop by "with" breakfast though. Then help me with some paperwork so I can get out sooner and hike.
Yeah, that would be ideal. lets do that.

Hey Jmitch, are there campsites along Benner Run, Black Moshannon Creek, or on Potter Run?

If we start a little earlier we can get some more miles in and the late arrivals can catch up via Huckleberry/Meyers Run Rd.

Just thinking aloud now about getting out on Sunday.
spindlette

11/11/08

Yes. A short cut in for our late arrivals would be nice. Please have the fire going and a beer opened and ready as I will be one of them. My e.t.a will be 8:30 pm to what ever trailhead you guys decide.

Ok CP, want a hot tub there too? Maybe I can get Spin.... ah, never mind.

I'm leaning to doing the loop counter clockwise, either camp at Benner, or if we push, on to Tark Hill or Sawdust Runs.
Sat night we'll camp at Smays Run, leaving 5-6 miles on Sunday.

Sat will be a long day, about 20 miles.

People coming in late on Fri can use a variety of shortcuts via the forest roads.

jmitch, can you recommend a map? The one on the website is only so-so. I called Black Moshannon State Park and they are going to send me their map of the area. Not sure how good it will be though.

Unless it's a thermal heated swimmin hole that hankerin' will be short lived.

As long as someone has a fire going nearby we can warm up..you know, like Bear Gryllis does on Man v. Wild.

If Bear Gryllis shows up to build us a fire to warm our frozen selves by...we're skinny dipping.

Ask yourself this.. Have you ever seen a woman on the show?... HMMMMMMMMM

We won't need a dung beetle munching survival expert on the AFT. He can just build us the fire and stand there looking pretty. Gratuitous nudity a plus.

There's no women on that show because it's rude to out-pretty the host. ;)

Hey people. If Jmitch wants a pack in a hot tub, you just leave him be. This kind of thoughtfulness is what many backpackers lack now a days.

BTW: Bear Grills = sissy show
Survivorman = rocks the house with reality

And we weren't talking "reality". ;)
spindlette

He's calling it quits because it makes him sad to spend 7 days alone. Off camera - he cry's himself to sleep at night. Plus they wont let him take beer. Think about how hard that must be for him - 7 days without a beer?

On the other hand Bear Grills gets a beer when he heads back to his hotel after filming for a few hours (with his crew).
