I can leave my Avalanche at lehigh gap. There is a road north of the Allentown shelter that is like a 2 mile easy night hike in.
BTW - thats a nice shelter - even has bunk beds!

“Reservoir - Allentown Shelter = 16 miles (Friday)

Allentown Shelter - Lehigh Gap = 16 miles (Saturday)

Out on Sun.

I like this idea the best.. If possible, I would like to tack on the 5.5 to Little Gap on Sunday, but I don't know how the parking is on Blue Mountain Road. Also, we may only have 4 vehicles.. Me Spindle CP and Nogranola so working this out logistically may be a Pain...

Now to figure out the liquor drops... uh I mean water cache's...

CD, in your case it might be best to meet us around the Eckville Shelter/Hawk Mountain in the early afternoon.

Or go straight to the Allentown Shelter for Friday night.

Spindle.. I don't have a map.. Can we meet CD somewhere on 78 (cabela's maybe.. or furter east) and do a car drop Friday morning?

CD what time are you leaving? Its going to take you about 5.5 hours to get to this area of 78 if you boogie and take 64W to 81N to 78E..

Hey what a minute.. How about the BFT Trail... LOL JUST JOKING!!!!!!!!

32oz, the best I can do is leave my car at Little Gap. It should not be driven any further.

Cabela's would be best for finding her. (If we go early I can go shopping!)

We should sort this out via PM.

No-Granola

That's what I'm thinking.. I hear there is some really weird tasting water in the area..

Not sure if I want to drink the water from there. but....

Port CLinton... Its the Route 61 exit near Hamburg.. You can't miss the Cabela's to the left up the hill as you drive east.. There are also tons of Cabela's Bill boards alone the way...

You should be there about 10 if you leave at 5 and drive in the fast lane..

Cabelas is in Hamburg. Huge honkin'(that's a technical term) building almost sitting right on 78.

I will let you and CD sort out the rest of details... I'll be a little gap at 8:30 and we will go from there...

We'll meet CD wherever you both decide....

Is there a road crossing that's safe to dump one of the cars as we head west... we can use it as a 'resupply' point.. LOL

Saturday night has options. The outerbridge shelter kinda sucks, but above it are nice camp sites and fire rings. The water is fine, you wont die and it doesnt taste funny.

so we removed the F from the AFT and turned it into the AT and now the plan is to hike from 183 to Lil Gap (that sounds like vintage ENS hiking plan)?

I think it became a postponement of the AFT trip.. I would imagine once Jmitch is up and running again, he'll be reposting that trip..

In the mean time, this is probably a lot easier for most people involved as far as logistics..

Even for those of us coming from VA, this works a little better..

It's also closer for the Pennsytuckians who have to work on Friday...

Besides Marissa Miller may have to bail early, and this gives her more outs...

The AT is much awesomer down here in southern PA.. what about the stretch from DWG south?

I'm not trying to rain on the plan.. it's a good one. I'm mostly joking. I was looking forward to the AFT, because the campsites are sweet, but the AT will always do in a pinch.

I'm not sure yet if I will make it, but I will keep posted.

Lyra and Liam are sick and I have been hovering between being sick and not sick.

ENS yeah one day I want to do that stretch into Duncannon during the winter when the leaves are down...

I just did from 183 south to PennMar this summer, and wouldn't mind doing it again, it's just that there is a lot of the northern part that I haven't done..

Wow, that's a subtle change. I kinda like the sound of "Appalachian Freakin Trail." Let "WTF on the AFT II" begin!

CP and I will probably shuttle a car over to Little Gap Friday night. There's a dirt road with parking (Jacksonville-Snyder Rd?) about 2 miles north (east) of the Allentown Shelter, so I reckon we'll hike in from there.

I'm sick as a dog now, but I'm assuming I'll be okee dokee by Friday night. Hey, I can bring ropes and we can descend into Little Gap the hard way. ;o)
