Hike #1 “I am using the National Geographic Map ISBN 4971701215, Afalconguide Hiking Glacier ISBN 9780762736324 as well as various magazines/websites for suggestions/routes. The first hike is called the Great Northern Traverse and is in the most northern part of the park. It starts at Kintla Lake and ends at Chief Mountain Customs at the Canadian Border. It is a 6 day hike of approx 60-70 miles depending on exact route. Part of it will be spent on the CDT and there will be opportunities for day hikes once we get into camp. While some of it is below treeline, the views are suuposed to be awesome.” 5:28:16 PM 10/05/08 “Sounds great!Hope we get it!” 5:45:29 PM 10/05/08 “http://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/hikingthetrails.htm Please click on the above link, then go down to the section labeled Trail Maps. If you click on any of the names a map will pop up. Move your curser over any of the numbers and a picture will pop up. Keep your curser there and you will get a short slide show.. This will help give us ideas of exactly where we want to hike. Hike number 59 on the North Fork section is included in Hike #1 above. I am still working on other alternatives based on a group of 8 (just in case).. '32oz” 6:36:16 AM 10/07/08 << back to Glacier National Park Backpacking Trip page
