As several of you know, I've been wanting to do so for quite some time, and even this particular section has been rescheduled at least twice. I drove out to Prentice Cooper, and set up a tent at the CT trailhead. There are some picnic tables and a parking area, but for water you have to backtrack back down the road to the entrance gate and use a quaint water pump with plenty of age and rust. I walked from the TH all the way to the suspension bridge and back. (6.3mi one way, 12.6 for the day) A really really nice hike. I really didn't notice it being all that hot, but the chiggers and seed ticks really ate me up. Perhaps by the time that one of you try it, the weather will be a little closer to fall/winter. Some really nice views, plenty of water sources, and pretty much everything you could ask for in a dayhike. Hope some of you will consider making the same route one day. As for pictures, the only camera I had with me was my cell phone, and the quality is so horrible I won't even try to upload any of them. http://www.cumberlandtrail.org/tngorge.jpg There are maps available if you need it, but I did the whole thing without a map. The trail is well-marked, and you should not need any additional help. ”12:02:16 PM 9/07/08 “Nice TR and great pic” 3:13:58 PM 9/07/08 << back to Cumberland Trail -- Tennessee River Gorge Segment page
