Yogisan, you don't have to search for it. I posted it above.

Yogisan... the misused citation in question is I believe section 6 #4 for there abouts. Right under the no harrassment clauses that are so easy for some to ignore.

misused citation, how?

I guarantee you that if this became a trend, and bigger companies started doing it, not only would many of you complain, but DM would put a stop to it. By them letting this go, it will seriously harm their chances of being able to do that without being sued by the bigger companies.

I have a hard time believing many people here will complain if big gear companies come onto the board wanting to give out free stuff.

"free"?

There is a price to be paid for having commerce and community mix.

I have a hard time believing any company, large or small, would find this forum worth hanging around in for any significant length of time. I suspect it is a non-issue.

Nothing wrong with Guerrilla Marketing! However, the term Guerrilla Marketing is now often used more loosely as a descriptor for non-traditional media, such as: ...

"The primary statistic to measure your business is the amount of profits, not sales." From the above cited article.

Giving away free products, even cosmetic seconds, does not benefit the profilts, even though it might result in more sales. Oh well, I guess I do recognize guerrilla marketing when I see it. It's just that this ain't it.

this doesnt bother me, altho it may technically violate the TOP. what annoys me is the bozos trying to sell hiking trips for beaucoup dinero. i can find my own way, thank you very much, and so can the rest of us. we dont want your over-priced hikes

Post it on the board. On this thread even. Keep the muck and mire centralized in one thread. Always a good choice.

Is this what you ppl are looking at when you are quoting the "Terms of Participation"? It's the link at the bottom of the page... just scroll down and read it.

http://thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/terms.php

I don't see no "section 6 #4" or anything about advertising, etc.

All I am saying is that I don't see what you are saying when you quote what you did.

How more plain can it be?

PROHIBITED CONTENT

You must not post to the Service any Content that, as reasonably determined by TheBackpacker.com, is or appears to be:

unsolicited, undisclosed or unauthorized advertising

It's unsolicited, undisclosed, unauthorized advertising. What's the confusion?
Hiker1984

what can i say... i click on that link on the bottom of the page and the "terms of participation" that i get doesn't even contain the word "advertising" yet alone "PROHIBITED CONTENT".
Yogisan

ok, i get it...

apparently there are "terms of use" and "terms of participation". one is a link at the VERY bottom of the page and the other is a link just above it.

You should back out gracefully considering all you've proven is that you didn't read all of the TOA, and you don't know what guerrilla marketing is.

"Well cool. I didn't get picked but I'll probably buy it."

I present to you, (drum roll) guerrilla marketing.

neat

(by the way "rev", I completed my BSBA at Temple U, was a leader in the marketing club even though it wasn't my major, and have personally attended a training seminar in guerrilla marketing by Levinson's group, the inventer of g.m., a few years after graduating - so, to answer your question, it's not so much that I "care", as you say, it's more that I'm just interested. Sorry it offended you, strange as that fact may be.)

It's a great idea, btw, as you can plainly see. I don't know for sure if the sellers knew what this was called, but I'm sure they saw potential new sales ... not that there's anything wrong with that .... or is there?

Okay here's my official REVIEW: I took this device on a 17 mile hike today on the AT in the Roan Highlands area. I took everal pics with it and it was easy to allign the photos however from time to time it would slip and my camera would end upside down. I never came close to losing the camera but it was a little aggravating. You have to really push it onto the stick hard to keep this from happening. My advice is to wipe the end of the trekking pole off very well before trying to operate.I would purchase this product but NOT for 14.95. I would however purchase it for 9.95!
