Uh, point of order.

Shouldn't the guy that knocked up Palin's daughter be charged with statuatory rape? I mean, she's under 18?

depends on how old he is. i believe he's 18, and in many states, you cant charge an 18 year old with stat rape of a 17 year old

No I wouldn't. I'd think it was none of my business and doesn't require my comments.

I started to say that I hope that some day when someone you love is in a situation like this people treat your loved one like you are treating them, but actually that isn't true. I hope nobody ever treats you jerks like you are doing.

Excellent examples you're setting.

exactly - all this wailing and nashing of teeth by the right that this somehow isn't fair.

Have they not seen presidential campaings before.

The Bush team was spreading lies about the parentage of one of McCain's children in 2000.

Palin held up her family as a reason she'd make a good VP and Pres - she opened the door here.

And Crash Bang is right. The GOP will say ANYTHING to win. You had the President on last night, taking time off from Gustav to talk about the 'hateful left' and you're whining that the Dems aren't being fair?

It's funny to watch your guys squirm because you're not really sure how it's going to shake out. Did McCain know what he was doing? Is Palin going to be able to produce (something other than kids)? Will the Republican Party fall from grace (uhhh, lemme answer that for ya: a little late for that one)? It's just FUN seeing you guys so insecure and riled up, coming the defense of the poor, country bumpkin governor.

Who's squirming? I think this is just a desperate character assassination ploy by the Dems and the media. I find that amusing, not uncomfortable.

IMO, it doesn't reflect poorly on Palin or McCain's judgement at all, because it simply isn't an issue to begin with.
Mutt

Of course it's not character assassination Mutt - there are genuine questions. The GOP are desperately and nervously clining to the hope that she's a star, and she might be, but the truth is like McCain, and you, they know almost nothing about her.

How do you expect to pluck a little-known Governor with little experience from the wilds of Alaska, with some strong views, five kids, second ever woman on a ticket, announce a teen pregnancy three days later, and expect this not to be news?

McCain pulls this one out of his ass, no one has ever heard her speak off script, we know little about her views on the big issues, she's hardly figured in any media, and the entire country is supposed to chant USA USA and applaud him for it.

Then they get all offensive and accuse the media and democrats of all sort of chit when someone dares question what she's all about.

Based on recent poll data, I don't think "desperate" and "nervous" describe conservatives. No, I'd use those to describe the obama campaign and the media after their flop of a convention.

Of course it's news, and from what I've seen conservatives are pleased with it. The liberal press is trying to paint it as a debacle by fabricating scandals that no one but Obama supporters care about. That's what's funny. The fact that they don't have anything more substantive to OMG!!1! about is telling.

and the entire country is supposed to chant USA USA and applaud him for it.

Only the ones that matter, as indeed they have. ;-)

That's the thing isn't it. You've have to be pretty extreme yourself to see that stuff. Most normal people don't see that.

Here ya go Mutt. We all know Shrub stated that God told him to invade Iraq. Here's what Palin said recently:

Here’s what Palin said in church:

“Pray for our military. He [Palin's son] is going to be deployed in September to Iraq – pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right for this country – that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God, that’s what we have to make sure we are praying for, that there is a plan and that it is God’s plan.”

A crackpot fur sure.

Yeah, I mean, even their own are turning to eat...

After a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mic ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they went for this — excuse me — political bullsh** about narratives," she said. "Every time Republicans do that ... because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."
