It really speaks poorly of a person's character when they gloat over the personal failures of a family to make a political point.

“It really speaks poorly of a person's character when they gloat over the personal failures of a family to make a political point.

Of course, their character - or lack thereof - was already well established after all the ageist and misogynist posts during the campaign.”
Mutt

Maybe I am missing something... but Sarah Palin (and those like her) have indeed browbeat us with the "Sanctity of Marriage" bit for years... and they gloat over personal failures of others in order to make their political points... And the do it all the time!!!

...apparently that's ok... they should be left to do so...

Yet, when they (and theirs) have their own set of problems, it's NOT OK for the rest of us to shine a very bright light of hypocrisy on them?

I think it's only fair.

If they don't like it, they should be less judgmental themselves.

You know... the whole "Do Unto Others" bit...

They can't complain about anything... nor should you.

“The comments from the libbies on this thread have re-inforced that I am definitely a conservative. And proud to be a conservative.”

Really? From my perspective, the Libs are just pointing out the awful hypocrisy of the Cons... and the Cons are crying foul.

Why be proud to be a member of a group of people that holds one set of standards (wrt "Family Values") for others but not for themselves. It's dishonest.

Conservatives have championed marriage, because it works - on the individual level and for society. That's why they bemoan the cheapness neoliberalism has imparted on it. Be careful not to confuse the truth of this fact with cheap politics.

Mutt must be torn. You have the bible-thumping aspects that dominate the ideology of the conservative spectrum (anti-gay, anti-single parent, anti-divorce, anti-sex) and then there is Mutt, the self-decried religion hater, trying to defend that platform. I can't help but think of the scene in Fight Club where Edward Norton realizes he's been punching himself in the face.

Like I said, neoliberalism has cheapened marriage.

And what's up with this homophobia that conservatives are so famous for?

I totally disagree with religious conservatives when it comes to homosexuality and homosexual marriage. You'll have to ask someone else.

and then there is Mutt, the self-decried religion hater, trying to defend that platform

Not really, because I do believe marriage is good for society.

What it comes down to is that liberals don't like it when conservatives remind them that traditional and time-proven social structures such as marriage have very real benefits to society and are still relevant. They don't want to admit that their quest for diversity and cultural and moral relativism has some very real failings - the collapse of marriage being a major one. That's why they're so vicious whenever they perceive a weakness.

"Conservatives have championed marriage, because it works...."

That is almost true.
It's the "championing" that has worked to get votes though the conservative policies have done little or nothing to help preserve marriage.

In fact conservative policy has probably done more to break up marriages especially among the lower economic strata.
Let's not forget that the conservatives are all about "schit walks and money talks".

"What it comes down to is that liberals don't like it when conservatives remind them that traditional and time-proven social structures such as marriage have very real benefits to society and are still relevant."

Complete and total bullschit there, Mutt.
Marriage and family is not a political matter. I have raised three wonderful young men and have been married over 27 years and I've worked for pay since I was ten years old AND we all voted for Obama.
You are simply engaging in character assassination of the political opposition.

You lie down with dogs, like the pseudo-righteous religious freaks and the money-grubbing sacks who have ruined the economy, and you become afflicted with the same sickness.

Republican Family Values

Todd Palins half-sister was arrested Thursday after police say she broke into a Wasilla home for the second time this week to steal money.

Palin is the husband of Gov. Sarah Palin. He declined comment.

Diana Palin, 35, entered a home near Wasillas Multi-Use Sports Complex and attempted to steal cash from the owners bedroom, police said.

She also broke into the same house on Tuesday and stole $400, they said.

She was arrested Thursday morning on felony charges of first-degree burglary and misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and theft, police said.
