What was it that this man did that makes him so controversial? And why is it that still today, thousands of years later, this man retains the highest crowd of follower that one man has ever known? Why should one man in history have such a lasting influence and impact on society? What give him this power? Was he really who he claimed to be? What do you think?” 12:06:17 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “What, the evolution and gay scout leaders threads weren't enough fun for you?” 12:17:24 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “FLAME BAIT!” 12:28:10 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Yep, flame bait for sure. We should have a discussion on Buddah next. I hear that he has a couple of followers too.” 12:33:56 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Hey, Zeus!” 1:05:43 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Open up the Bible to John and read. I'd bet my life He is who he claimed to be.” 1:25:26 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “no doubt he was real, but i beleive in him only as an historcal figure, not as a god. and i went to 16 years of catholic school. if he is the true savior, and christianity is correct, then all the other religions are not. however, i would never tell someone that what they beleive in (buddhism, etc.) is wrong and untruthful. other religions are just as beleivable as some of the mumbojumbo i was taught in catholic school. to each their own.” 1:38:32 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Isn't he that little latino that is always trying to pick up the white chicks at that dance bar? Has an amigo named Rico, right?” 1:38:40 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “The main difference between Budda, etc. and Christ is that the others are all dead; Christ is alive and active in our lives. The prophesies fullfilled by Christ are proof enough! What are the chances of a mortal man, not God's son, fulfilling the prophets' predictions? Born in Bethlehem: 1 in 200 Preceded by a messenger(John the Baptist): 1 in 20 Enter Jerusalem on a colt: 1 in 50 Be betrayed by a friend: 1 in 10 Have his hands and feet pierced: 1 in 100(BTW this was predicted 500 years before the Romans invented crucifiction) Wounded and whipped: 1 in 25 Sold for 30 silver pieces: 1 in 100 Spit upon and beaten: 1 in 10 Betrayal money thrown in temple and given for potters field (where the destitute were buried): 1 in 200 Silent before His accusers: 1 in 100 Crucified w/ thieves: 1 in 100 One chance in 10 billion times 10 billion that the prophets of the bible could've predicted these 11 specifics by chance,or that 1 man's life would match up to them by chance alone. He has to be God's son, wat other explaination is there? Sorry I orbitmanifestoed there but I find these statistics amazing and thought they might be interesting to you all.” 2:11:28 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “joy, not to be unkind or put you down ;but you really need to check the methods\ applications of statistical formulas. i am not disputing the supposed fullfillment of prophetic statments,i simply object to the erroneous methods used to arrive at the stated conclusion (s).” 2:22:39 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “i agree. i'm a christian, and i feel that those stats are WAAYYYY off base. where did you get that?” 2:27:37 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “raddy,as you know;there are a lot of 'people' out there who blather and dither and carry on at length about things they know nothing about.invalid statistacal endproducts re: prophetic fullfillment have been making the rounds for more years than i can remember. go to www.christian-thinktank.com for more info.” 2:52:15 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “P.S. he was\is who he said he is.” 2:55:07 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “christian think tank? Hoo boy.......” 3:01:39 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “joy ,i deal with the misappropriations of scripture every day .it really is a good idea to verify any suppositions or statements made by people in his name ,or in claimed support of christian beliefs .if you want a perfect example of scriptural abuse ,tutn on TBN.so many lies and misstatements in his name ,it makes you wonder where the truth went to.” 3:02:36 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “sumstew, don't even get me started.....” 3:07:32 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Briar Rabbit why would you compare Jesus to a mexican at the bar? To alot of people, myself included, would take that worse than if you called their mom or child a dirty name! Stop!” 5:27:55 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “So, I wonder; was Jesus an ultra-lite packer or a monster-pack hiker? With the beard and long hair I'm guessing he would be one of those hippy ultra-liters ;-)” 6:08:39 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Then again, maybe he was a monster packer. The weight he carried on that last hike almost killed him.” 6:41:50 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “calm yourself spammy, he was just joking around.” 7:01:48 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “If I remember the Bible correctly, Jesus had a very large external fram backpack made of wood, it was so heavy he ended up giving it tos someone eles to cary the rest of the way.” 7:09:02 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “The big J met a trail angel on his last hike.” 7:49:57 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “null” 8:38:21 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “oh boy...here we go.” 8:38:54 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “We don't have anybody at TT going by that handle.” 8:44:32 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Naw, his trail name is WaterWalker or something like that. Apparently he did a really wet hiking trail once.” 8:48:54 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “I heard that in Israel someone built a bridge that was 3 or 4 inches underwater as a tourist attraction for all the millenium whackos. The idea was to be able to walk on water. Hmmmm?” 8:52:14 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Who is Jesus is very well summed up in the Bible. Pretty good reading , I might add. For corraboration, consult the writings of Josephus. Jesus is more than a biblical figure, there is still historical documentation of his life. He volunteered to give his life for us, as ungrateful as we may or may not be. He has every bit of my respect. And one day, I'll shake his hand for it.” 10:02:11 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Some people call me Jesus, some call me bacpac. It doesn't really matter I answer to all of my Father's children.” 10:08:37 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “He is The Prince of Peace,Savior, Messiah, Rabbi, Teacher,Prophet and THE SON of GOD! He is the only human to ever walk the face of the Earth without sin. He is forgiving. He is Love, Mercy and Grace! Did I mention he IS The Son of Almighty God?” 10:50:20 PM 5/04/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Whoa there! Just alittle insert that was in the church bulletin on Easter Sunday, not my personal calculations. I'll call the pastor tomorrow and get back to you on the source. What do you find so offensive about it? BTW, I apologize for getting so many feathers ruffled, not my intention at all.” 12:21:13 AM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “just easy off that there six-shooter there Spam, I don't mean no harm now, it was a simple play on words like_ hey zeus. You should know better than that. I know where you stand. why is everybody so quick to jump the gun sometimes?” 2:06:21 AM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Aw, hey man, I played with that dude, man! Naw, naw, he's not a musician! Yeah, I'm hip man, that dude couldn't carry a tune in a bucket! Naw, man........” 9:23:20 AM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “jesus liked to party at the campsite. no need to drag in the alchohol, he just found a stream and filled the water bottles with wine.” 9:36:09 AM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Wow! See what I mean! I just posted this question last night and there are already 34 discussion threads. Jesus is still very controversial today. Why does that name generate so much controvery even still today? Does anybody know? If he doesn't deserve the recognition of even being talked about, then why do so many people who are both for or against him race to debates like this about him. Just what is it that makes him so special? What gives him the right to claim he can forgive the world of their sins? Was he just one great blasphemer, a liar, a lunatic perhaps? But if this were so, why does he stick out so much throughout history and among such great historical figures? Many men are blasphemers, and we are certainly all liars, and quite definately some of us are lunatics. How come these men don't stand out in a crowd of great historical figures? I'd like to get some serious answers from the aithiestic and agnostic viewpoint as well, not just wise cracks but logical reasoning and well thought conclusions as if you were trying to convince one that Jesus was not who he claimed to be. Thanks.” 11:34:36 AM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “"There's a sucker born every minute".......oops, wrong thread!” 12:14:45 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “He was a devout Jew who spoke in favor of the Jewish Scriptures (old Testament), but against the hypocracy of the establishment. He was someone who spoke of the coming of God's kingdom but was very careful not to define it in any kind of limiting terms. He was someone who practiced love of all, particularly the outcasts of society in his time. He was someone who made such a stong impact on his time, that stories and rememberances were still being collected and written down 30 (Mark), 50 (Matt-Luke), and even 75 (John) years after his death. Now we can all argue about who and what the concept of God means to each of us (the force behind nature and the beauty of a mountain hike on a crisp morning, the creator of the universe, the being of which there is no greater, etc.), but its obvious that Jesus had a special relationship in understanding and living his relationship with God and remains one of the best examples in history of a glimpse of God among us. That's why he is still. PS - I can't find anywhere that Jesus says other religions/beliefs are not also an approach to understanding and embracing our relationship with God.” 12:51:37 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “He was also a person who loved nature he said something to the effect that "the earth is my wife" in Revelations. He also spent many nights in the Desert by himself, so he was a soloist, and a minimalist. Wouldn't it be cool if we could turn 1 fish into many, same with the bread. That would save some weight!” 1:11:56 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “2Sheds, John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth , and the light. No one comes to the Father but (except) through me."” 1:17:10 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? 1:39:03 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Yeah, sumstew, I don't really understand why he's so controversial either. It certainly wouldn't have been his intention (to be controversial), whether he's who he claims to be or not. A theory I just came up with is this: For both atheists and Christians alike, religion is a big part of their definition of self. Atheists and agnostics take pride in their independence, and Christians take pride in their faith. The controversy isn't really about Jesus, it's about people defending their sense of self. I think a whole lot of people could stand to review that Bible verse "Worship in the closet, not in the marketplace."” 1:51:09 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “YAWN!” 2:30:30 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “"The earth is my wife".....hmmmm The dude musta been a backpacker.....I like to hump the earth too!” 2:37:29 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Tom T, You is the original ground pounder!” 2:47:23 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Lordy lordy lordy!” 3:09:23 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “I dig the earth....... ......dork in the dirt” 3:22:16 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “TT- You crack me up. Have you ever heard of the group I Mother Earth? They really rock, actually, hard. One song: "Making love to the ground 'cause it just feels better.." You just made me think of that.” 4:40:39 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “I once saw a picture in Sports Illustrated where someone had a JESUS SAVES bumpersticker. It was up in Boston (many moons ago) and someone had written underneath: "And Esposito Scores on the Rebound."” 4:46:15 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “Yay Boston! Never heard of them Bonzai” 5:44:02 PM 5/05/00 RE: Who Is Jesus? “How come all these prophets manifest in a male body? I am NOT going to go off on some anti-patriarchal rant, but I really am curious as to why. I never used to wonder about such things, and then I lost (voluntarily) my religion (Mormon).” 6:39:25 PM 5/05/00 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
