LeConte Trip this Weekend

“I know this is last minute but I have had reservations at the shelter for a month and just had a few people bail on me.

The plan is to park at Newfound Gap and hike in to LeConte via 2.7 miles of the AT and 5.4 Miles of the Boulevard Trail to LeConte Shelter. Becouse before we were only going to have one car, we were going to hike out the way we came in, but if you would rather go out another way (such as Alum Cave Trail) with two cars, it would be an easy shuttle.”

“We can either meet Friday night and stay at a front country site or meet on Saturday morning. It doesn't matter to me.”

“NGB and I will be hiking from Cades Cove over to CS 17 to meet dayhiker on Saturday so we can't make it. We were up at LeConte in April and it was still cold up there.”

“Yeah, I noticed it was 40* there a couple of days ago. It should provide a good escape from the heat of the Tennessee Valley.”

“If you go, you need to get rsvp CS early on. By and by, I don't really want to go there alone this time. No one confirmed for the trip. So it's been postponed until next year.”

I'm already planning on being in Washington next year, so depending on when you go I might be interested...

“Having a bunch of trips is a good thing 32oz, it has been dead on here lately (I guess southern summers tend to do that).



BTW I will be coming from the Chattanooga area and if anyone wants to carpool they are more than welcome.”

“When are you leaving Chattanooga (and planning to be back there)?”

“It really just depends on what time everyone wants to meet, it is a 3 hour drive from Chattanooga. I probably wouldn't want to leave any earlier than six, but six, seven, or eight would be fine. I imagine that we would be back in Chattanooga by about 6:00PM, but that is just a guess. I do plan on heading straight home once we reach the parking lot.”

“Since I'm coming from FL, how about meeting with you in Chat'nooga?”

“You are more than welcome to ride with me from Chattanooga. I emailed you my information and directions.”

“I'll be coming from Birmingham (if I can work out coming at all, should know later tonight or in the morning) so a meet in Chattanooga would work well for me as well...”

“You are more than welcome to come to my house, but we might have to ride in someone's else's car as I drive a truck and it probably wouldn't be comfortable for three people. I would be happy to chip in and help with gas though. Just let me know.

“I have a truck too (it is extended cab which can be cramped for "#3" although I've done it many times).

precision - what time would you get to Chatt?”

“I'm going to ask Mrs. Opie tonight. I was going to my parents this weekend for a wedding. But i'd rather do this. I'd be coming from ATL, through Cheerokee, and could use my truck to shuttle easy”

“If I knew when you were getting to NFG, I would show up for a send off party before going back over to Cades Cove and hiking to CS17.”

“I'll be joining in if it's still open. I'll be coming from Gastonia NC so I'd have to meet up at the Trailhead. What time do you plan on getting there.”

“I already see an overflow. Too many people, too few spots.

As a casual sidenote, dayhiker, NGB and I will be at CS 17 this weekend if anybody wants to hike in up there. You can come in and out through Cades Cove, or to or from Abrams Campground or we can figure out how to shuttle you around if necessary.”

“Dayhiker just sent me an email and advised he is going to #39. The increase in elevation should help. It is going to be hot in the valley this weekend.

We may have a buyer for our place in Townsend and if so, we will be limited to dayhiking Saturday.”

“chili, on Sat we'll either hike we'll either explore upstream on Pretty Hollow Gap Trail or Palmer Creek Trail. I'll leave a note or build an arrow out of sticks.”

“I am trying to get a hold of the backcounty reservation office to see if there are any more spots available at the shelter, although with LeConte being so popular, I kind of doubt it. I really wish they would let you tent around shelters in the park”

As i was steering her to let me go on this trip, I got her to agree to not go to the wedding, give me $50 bucks for a the new NCAA 2009 football game, and block the lifetime channel from our cable lineup.
I then brought up the leconte trip, and she balked due to gas prices.
Instead of have all my work collapse I quit while i was ahead.”
