It would be nice to see Big Brown pull the Triple Crown.

Growing up in Saratoga Springs, I've grown to hate horse racing.

I was listening to Mike and Mike on the way in to work.. they were interviewing the trainer of Big Ben... (at least I think it was the trainer).. Now I am neutral on the whole horse racing thing as i don't have all of the facts but one thing he said was amazing.

He stated that he knows there are dangers. That death and injury happen and will continue to happen in horse racing, but that is a risk that they take because of the excitement and the joy of winning.. I was thinking to myself would it still be worth the risk if after they put the horse 'down' they put the trainer down too?

Race horses have it a lot easier than those poor steers on the feed lots in Kansas.

Every year the horse racing "industry" whines to the state legislature about allowing slot machines to save horse racing.
They talk about what an important part of Maryland's economy they are.

The fact is that recreational horse activity is 80% of this states horse "industry".

I don't know anyone who goes to horse races............................but I know a few hockey pucks who dig the schit outta hockey.

IMHO, horse racing is all about the pagentry.

One of these years, I am going to the Kentucky Colonels party in the infield at the Kentucky Derby.

I hear that the infield is a drunken stewfest...

They took Big Brown off the juice for this race and he didn't look near as good.

Why steroids are allowed or tolerated in any sport baffles me.

I love horses and remember Secretariat's glory. I met him in retirement and maybe Big Brown will be a good stud for the future. I felt bad when they put that filly down last month in KY.

Big Brown came in last!!!! I think they said it's the first time a "shoe-in" came in last.....EVER. Lucky I don't bet on horses. Poor Big Brown had a cracked hoof....the owners shouldn't have made him race. Pure greed.

His hoof was not a factor.

Thoroughbred racing is tough on horses. They die at the rate of 2 out of every 1000 starts.
