Bless Them Republicans
Well, Good 'ole George sets another one free... Scooter Libby - on the cusp of serving a 30 month sentance for leaking Valerie Plame's ID to the world, endangering her life, cover, etc. - gets an 11th hour reprieve from Georgy-boy, who concludes, after numerous hours of self-study and revelation, that the sentance is too harsh, and commutes Scooter's obligation to a mere time served - was there any? - a $250,000 fine, and 2 years of probation.

What a load of krap.

Had this been a military betrayal, in time of war (oh yeah, we ARE at war), he'd likely have been subject to 10 years minimum in Federal prison, or more.

Who out there believes this action endears the Republicans to the general public? Who out there doesn't now, finally, believe ole George is being straight with the American Public?

Methinks George Bush just assured a Dem Administration. If not, might as well elect Bloomberg. At least he's independant. For now, anyway. ANd he sure knows how to run a business (started his from scratch, on his own).

Whoever YOUR favorite is, know this: If you give them a second term, it don't matter WHAT they say, they STILL get away with scamming the American Public. Party affiliation rarely matters.

As for Bush... draw your own conclusions.

Hey obi, long time...

The only thing surprising here is that you're surprised.

When it's OK to attack a guys wife because he disagrees with you, rules don't apply.

When a Singing Statment saying that the law I just sign into law doesn't apply to me, then the law doesn't matter.

When the VP is not part of the adminstration, then logic doesn't apply.

But the really bad thing here is; we'll never know what Schooters nickname would have been in prison

Who the hell would hire someone named Scooter in the first place? Scooter? The guy should wear a propeller beanie hat and have a sling shot hanging out of his back pocket.

Its always a classy move, we've seen some of that here from some real weiners.

The administration, er..........regime, certainly did go after Joe Wilson's family.

I suppose the 28%'ers will deny that forever.

Now that I think of it this commutation will probably raise the President's approval rating.

Well Well well...the short memory libbies jump on the wagon here...LOL...lets get our facts straight..he DID NOT GET A PARDON...he got a break from the Prison Time, nothing more.

Now lets look at a couple of libbies...

As chairperson and ranking member of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee (MILCON) from 2001 through the end of 2005, Feinstein supervised the appropriation of billions of dollars a year for specific military construction projects. Two defense contractors whose interests were largely controlled by her husband, financier Richard C. Blum, benefited from decisions made by Feinstein as leader of this powerful subcommittee.
http://metroactive.com/feinstein/index.html

Lets remember a REAL HERO Duke Cunningham is locked up for MUCH less...(but then he was not a libbie)

Or how bout Dingy Harry Reid and his Clintonesque profits off the property scam? NO Nothing? WHATSA matta libbies? Hitting to freaking close to home

Well lets talk pardons.

Slick Willie is the POSTER CHILD.

He Pardons CRIMINALS How bout MARC RICH...or even where Tony Rodham (Hillys Bro) sold ...thats right SOLD pardons...and nary a peep out of the libbies...wonder why

As for Whitewater, no wrongdoing was ever proven in a court of law. Until then, stick it, dude!

I'm not surprised in the least.

To allow the courts to follow the rule of law that Right likes to talk about so much, would have required integrity, honesty and courage on Bushes part.

Three qualities this President does not have.

Instead they will point to Clinton. Thats the Gang Banger defense. According to that line of defense, I can do anything I want as long as someone else has done it in the past. That too shows a lack of integrity.

Why would someone be surprised when they notice the snake is still a snake?

Joe Biden news release:

"Today, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said that President Bush decided to commute Scooter Libby's 30 month prison sentence for perjury and obstruction of justice because it was 'excessive.'

Yet, last year, the Bush administration filed a friend-of-the-court brief* with the Supreme Court in an attempt to uphold a lower court's ruling that a 33 month prison sentence for Victor Rita, who was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice, was 'reasonable.'

The questions we should all be asking ourselves today are:

Why is the President flip-flopping?
Why does Scooter Libby get special treatment?
George Bush's disregard for the rule of law is truly unbecoming a President. I'm calling on every American to flood the White House this week with phone calls and tell the President, "In 2000, when you ran for president, you promised to 'uphold the honor and dignity' of the office of President of the United States -- We're Still Waiting".

Call the White House: 202-456-1414

Thank you,

Joe Biden"

Here's just one of the 396 pardons by Clinton during his reign.

BORDERS, William Arthur, Jr. Washington, D.C. Conspiracy to corruptly solicit and accept money in return for influencing the official acts of a federal district court judge (Alcee L. Hastings), and to defraud the United States in connection with the performance of lawful government functions; corruptly influencing, obstructing, impeding and endeavoring to influence, obstruct and impede the due administration of justice, and aiding and abetting therein; traveling interstate with intent to commit bribery

This was not a pardon. If Bush had pardoned Libby, he would have lost his 5th amendment right not to self incriminate and could have been compelled to testify against his bosses.

Couldn't have that.

Hmm.  If so, that would still be the case should George be tempted to pardon Scooter, say, on his last day in office (which seems to be a popular time for that sort of thing).

I suppose he could always take the 5th again claiming it was related to some other underlying circumstance.  Then who's to say?

I'm curious about how these developments and other 'what-ifs' might impact the pending civil litigation.

Stir up the pot...

Watch what people throw in...

Soup's on! Don't be bashful... there's plenty to go around...

Scooter Soup feeds the American Public. Just another course in the political meals we've been fed over the years.

Left Wing. Right. Liberal Bleeding Hearts. Conservatives. They are all ingredients in the same soup, people.

I've bicht and moaned whenever I felt outraged enough to say something, regardless of who (if anyone at all) were listening. I'm not picking just on ole George, Mr. numbers. He just happens to be the charlatan of the moment.

And you should be as outraged as anyone posting here, since tit for tat politics isn't what I voted for, nor, I suspect, what you may [naively?] believe. Everyone you mentioned deserves our ire, at least. Many, much more. Bush's generosity to Scooter will no doubt obligate the latter to some sort of post-politic favor. Wouldn't it be interesting to be the fly on THAT wall?

There are too many leaks of classified information in Washington. There's leaks at the executive branch; there's leaks in the legislative branch. There's just too many leaks. And if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of.

- George W. Bush
