I think the first thing we need to do is set the agenda on skills we will cover. I know we will want map reading and fire building. I think there is clear interest in the reflector oven. I for one want to see best practices in pitching a tarp. Might sound easy, but I would like to see one pitched in various configurations. What else? I don't think we need any more than a dozen areas or we just can't cover it. Actually a half dozen sounds more manageable.” 7:21:13 AM 6/29/07 “what about finding your tent in the middle of the night after you've had too much to drink?” 7:25:36 AM 6/29/07 “And getting as much alcohol into a campsite without puting your pack weight over 25# that you can?” 7:33:48 AM 6/29/07 “Common, useful knots would be good. I'm stilled awed by how HOI tied up my food bag at Sipsey one time without even tieing a knot.” 7:41:54 AM 6/29/07 “1. Map reading 2. Fire building 3. Knots 4. Reflector Oven 5. Tarp configuration Keep it coming. I will go back and look at the post by ChuckD that had some good ideas.” 7:47:49 AM 6/29/07 “basic wilderness first aid” 8:08:52 AM 6/29/07 “1001 uses for duct tape. That presentation can tie in to the first aid course nicely.” 8:26:15 AM 6/29/07 “First aid is pretty complex unless we have someone who has taken the Wilderness First Aid course or can teach it. I wonder if the outfitter in Hot Springs can get someone to teach it?” 9:08:05 AM 6/29/07 “Do you see this being a kid friendly trip?” 9:09:54 AM 6/29/07 “Yes, this will not be a drunken TT party. I am not going to make some crazy statement that NO alcohol will be allowed as I have no way of enforcing that. However, let's make it clear... This IS a KID FRIENDLY trip.” 9:14:52 AM 6/29/07 “DH yep. Hyway asked about that too.” 9:14:53 AM 6/29/07 “I added a statement to that effect to the trip page.” 9:17:28 AM 6/29/07 “I'll see if I can make it with the kiddos then. I'd also like to take them to the Sipsey trip 2 weeks earlier. I'll just see how it goes, but would love to make it.” 9:18:49 AM 6/29/07 “I may be wrong but I don't think anyone has an issue with enjoying a drink or so. last edited: 6/29/07 9:22:59 AM” 9:22:26 AM 6/29/07 “Chili...what do you want Taught? For my money Stabalization of the patient after a fall, opening airway, stopping bleeding, these are major things.” 9:22:29 AM 6/29/07 “How about covering the basics of Widerness Survival, after all you never know when you could twist an ankle, lose your pack in a stream crossing, etc.!” 9:26:59 AM 6/29/07 “If I make it then I'd likely enjoy an adult beverage or two around the campfire.” 9:28:07 AM 6/29/07 “WOW...maybe I will have enough time to plan for this..Chili let me know if I am there I can go over some basics. I will bring the coffee and cigars.” 9:57:16 AM 6/29/07 “I can instruct how to use a burned stick as eyeliner while on the trail...” 9:59:39 AM 6/29/07 “I agree HPM and DH, I don't think anyone will flip out over an adult beverage, but I wanted to make it clear we aint tapping a keg.” 10:01:04 AM 6/29/07 “XL, if you can head up a First Aid course, I think it would be great. Basics after major injury and one thing I think would be great is treatment of hotspots, blisters.” 10:01:59 AM 6/29/07 “"Yes, this will not be a drunken TT party." chili 9:14:52 AM 6/29/07 Dang, I'm out. ;) It's a really good idea, chili -- and a excellent service to the community. A lot of us adults know all of this, but wow, what a great opportunity to pass along that knowledge to the next generations of hikers and backpackers. LNT. Orienteering. Survival. Great Backpacking Pickup Lines.” 10:04:57 AM 6/29/07 “div - something tells me you're not joking.” 10:10:12 AM 6/29/07 “Watch photos of chili doing kegstands come out now that he's boldy said we have to behave.” 10:10:44 AM 6/29/07 Great Backpacking Pickup Lines “Do you hike here often? Is that a nalgene in your pack or are you just happy to see me? Wadda ya say we head back to my tent for some freeze dried food and sex? Whats the matter, you don't like freeze dried food?” 10:11:25 AM 6/29/07 “LMAO @ HPM...... uhm, well, post a few more, would you?” 10:13:21 AM 6/29/07 “LOL..hahahahaha.....ROTFL....” 10:14:02 AM 6/29/07 “You look just like my next hiking partner. Baby I'm like carob coated gorp, I melt in your mouth not in your food bag. You must know know kung-fu cause your pack is kickin'.” 10:19:24 AM 6/29/07 “HPM is having so little problem coming up with these.. he obviously is speaking from experience. I might have to pick up the phone and call Treebait. ;)” 10:29:29 AM 6/29/07 “We can even have some folks bring in their fav foods to share.....” 10:37:07 AM 6/29/07 “I'd like to learn how to slip drunken boys into other peoples tents” 10:38:53 AM 6/29/07 “I guess I could dig a pit and do a whole hog, LOL, that is a basic skill in Lower Alabama.” 10:39:02 AM 6/29/07 “....mmmm...some of the TC food has been WONDERFULLLLL>>>>>>” 10:39:10 AM 6/29/07 “or crawfish!!” 10:39:44 AM 6/29/07 “Yes Towndawg, I've heard these before. They usually result in an eyeroll and an amused and mildly derisive snort.” 10:42:22 AM 6/29/07 “Treebait -- heh.. well the few times I've talked to you.. I have no doubt that you keep the Mikemaster in line. ;) Divinity -- Come on a hike with me baby, and I'll give you something to eat. ;) Ok.. totally uncalled for... I see your Tc5 hints though. Let's see if we can work out something in May 2008. (I've actually got my entry already decided on. I selected it a month ago or so.) last edited: 6/29/07 10:52:45 AM” 10:47:25 AM 6/29/07 “Sometimes it's difficult, but I try. You should see how much he spent at REI last night. Yikes.” 10:48:33 AM 6/29/07 “Divinity -- Come on a hike with me baby, and I'll give you something to eat. ;) Ok.. totally uncalled for... I see your Tc5 hints though. TownDawg 10:47:25 AM 6/29/07 ...sorry...not TC hint..... ...and ..no thank you.....” 10:59:17 AM 6/29/07 “I dont think divinity is hinting at a cookoff, I think she is hinting at having some damn fine food while we are there.” 11:11:26 AM 6/29/07 “don't we always? that time of year you might talk me into doing some ribs or something. last edited: 6/29/07 11:13:08 AM” 11:12:34 AM 6/29/07 “MMMM..we had some wonderful food....curry...sushi.....trout...mmm...” 11:13:29 AM 6/29/07 “you, sir, are the only person I know to always backpack in a steak, baked potato and ceaser salad for your meals I highly suspect you secretly have a apple pie in your pack but havent been able to confirm yet.” 11:13:46 AM 6/29/07 “Thanks for reminding me Chili, one of our scouts packed in a big steak for himself on a trip. He cooked it beautifully over an open fire and in the process of transferring it to a plate he dropped it in the sand. The collective "Oooohhhhh!" of dismay was impressive.” 11:16:38 AM 6/29/07 “lol, I hate it when that happens.” 11:18:55 AM 6/29/07 “hey...just wash it off!!!....sand is a little harder to wash off tho” 11:21:46 AM 6/29/07 “nothing like a little silica with your meat” 11:31:29 AM 6/29/07 “I bet the nature of this get together could get me a school excuse for the 2 older kids. Hmmmm.” 11:32:00 AM 6/29/07 “speaking of basic skills - has anyone tapped one of the 5 liter minikegs of Heineken? - just about the right size for a small group of beer drinkers or a couple of serious beer drinkers or one drunk” 11:42:47 AM 6/29/07 “Chili & I are discussing doing a shrimp boil....how about it you yankees???????” 11:49:09 AM 6/29/07 “All shrimp boils require beer. It's a fact. How about chili does a hog and hyway does seafood? Johnny Ray's pie anyone?” 11:51:51 AM 6/29/07 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
