CLIMBING IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS
Some friends of mine from the climbing gym I hang out at want to plan a weekend at Red River Gorge to climb. See the trip page for details but I figured I would see if anyone else from TT wanted to go.

The dates are tentative right now, but I think it will have to be in July since I am on the JMT the entire month of August.

This is the weekend we get back from California. I cannot take off any more time right now. Saving it for October

Hehe.

I climb several routes over and over in the gym to warm up or because they are difficult routes I am trying to learn how to climb. I have a set of "boo-boos" on various spots of my body... wrist, palm, knee mostly. I'll smack up the same spot over and over because the motions are so precise (and some of the dynos are FAST). There is a scab on my wrist, perhaps 4mm x 3mm, that I have had for months now from a dyno on a climb that I just got down about a month ago. The piece I am reaching for is tucked in a little pocket and it takes a quick, precise motion to snag it (while tossing myself up and over).

Like I said, the dates are flexible right now.

Knee, I am looking forward to October as well. I presume you are talking about the NCT trip.

Man I am so jealous. After our litle experience with climbing on Courthouse rock, I really want to start climbing. I am so pieced that I am out of vacation time already. You guys will have a great time.

Thanks for checking in Jimmysan. My husband heard on the news that some hikers had to be rescued at the gorge yesterday. I was worried for a minute, then I saw your post.

Oh man, I hope it wasn't those high school kids I saw. There were about 15 of them with two adult leaders. They were hiking from Martins Fork on the Rough Trail to 100. I ran into them going to Grey's Arch and they were totally turned around. They had taken that right fork past the second bridge instead of the left fork that passes over that third bridge and up onto the ridge. It's a common mistake people make, but they missed the blazes (I don't even think they were looking for them) and would up on an unmarked trail that wasn't on my map. They had turned around and were hikin back when I heard them. If you hear anything about the rescue please let me know. I really worried about these people... but their spirits were high. Then again it's a heck of a climb up and out and then you have to drop down again to get to Grey's Arch... only to have to do it again to get out.

I got them back onto the Rough Trail and gave them detailed directions and some warnings to keep them on the path... but I worried all weekend about them. I even ran 3/4 of a mile down the path I put them on just to be sure it was the Rough Trail.

Awful... but it wasn't those high school kids.

...oh and we heard what we thought was a helecopter but I swore it had to be something else... perhaps it was.

on edit, the accident was on the morning of the 13th... we were driving to the gorge at this time so i am betting it wasn't a helicopter.
