A friend is doing an impromptu thru-hike and needs a lift down to GA next weekend. He asked that I take him down. I'm excited about it, but sad I'll be missing this hike.”

“im leaning towards driving, unless i find a great deal on airfare. by the time i drive to the airport, go thru security, fly 3 1/2 hours, get baggage, get out of the airport, and drive with marko from baltimore to the trailhead, i wont have saved more than an hour or two, and spent probably twice as much money. but i havent ruled out flying yet”

Bought them at Bass Pro in Gurnee (10 miutes from work)
I walked through several calf deep streams/ standing water and they did keep my feet dry, shoes got wet though,LOL !!
I tried Hefty steel sack trash bags and they kept everything dry, but would not withstand more than 3,4 crossings. I will use them this weekend as they are cheap if you only have to do that kinda thing a couple of times. They are very light as well!!

The longest I have driven for a trip was 10 hours up to Baxter State Park in Maine. The Smokies are a good 8 hours away and so are the Dacks and Whites.”

“hell, i drove from kokomo (45 minutes north of indy) to the georgia AT on a friday night after work and returned on sunday evening, in order to orchestrate a hiker feed last year. thats about a 10 hour drive each way”
