Smokies overnighter March 24-25 - see trip “A couple of us are planning to do an overnight trip in the Cataloochee area of the GSMNP. Take a look at the trip :-)” 8:57:58 PM 3/11/07 “Cataloochee? Nowslimmer should be there around that time too.” 8:58:39 PM 3/11/07 “Don't be surprised if the trail seems longer on Saturday. It is! It's about 6.9 miles. And of course, the trip won't be complete without hiking about 0.35 mi. uphill on Sunday Morning to "Big Poplars." If you take your gear with you, you could contimue uphill to the Rough Fork Trail. From that junction it is downhill all the way out. But before getting into the cars, go a few tenths of a mile up Big Fork Ridge Trail for pictures of the holding pens, where they allowed the Elks to get used to their new environment in GSMNP. Have fun.” 10:50:27 PM 3/11/07 “Are there any more details on this trip? I may drive in after work on Friday.” 2:42:14 PM 3/18/07 “Mocs, we will be there Saturday morning. Where would you be driving in from? I'm thinking whoever wants to go can meet at 11:00 Saturday morning at the trailhead. Or go ahead and get your own permit and we can meet at campsite #41. #41 isn't a reservation site.” 3:09:45 PM 3/18/07 “I will be driving in from Chattanooga, but if you are not meeting at the trailhead until 11:00am, I may not leave until early Saturday morning.” 3:35:23 PM 3/18/07 “Mocs, I sent you an email to your Yahoo account (the one the is linked with your name in TT).” 3:40:52 PM 3/18/07 “I have to go to the Alabama coast this weekend so it looks like I will miss out on the trip. Have fun!” 8:12:36 AM 3/19/07 “the weather forecast is looking good so far” 4:07:22 PM 3/21/07 “If today is any indication of what you can expect this weekend, you are in good shape. It is beautiful in the mountains. If you get time for a short dayhike, I suggest the first half mile of Chestnut Top up out of the Townsend Wye. The wildflowers are in full bloom. Over a dozen species are blooming.” 9:14:03 AM 3/22/07 << back to Deam Wilderness page
