Weekend Trip
I'm off to LBL this weekend! I'll be out Friday and Saturday nights. Looks like it might be nice and chilly. I wouldn't mind a hiking partner if someone can go.

LBL is 20 miles from my house. Check out the trip page titled Early Summer Blast in June.

Don't think I can make it for an overnighter. There's always a possiblity for a day hike. What's your planned route?

I'm planning to do the Ft. Henry trail. I've never been to LBL before, so I'm not too sure how it will go.

I took some classes at Martin. It used to be a party town. A little place on Church Street rocked on weekends. I think it was called Hillaries or something like that.

I haven't done much hiking in the south portion of LBL. I stay up on the north end. The one time I went down there I found the blazing confusing. Never had any problems on the north end. Probably user error.

The place on Church St. now is Cadillac's (not that I know anything about that...). Still considered by some a party school. If the frat house next door is any indication, it is.

Do you know a good 20-30 mi. path on the North end? The maps all make it look like it's 10 or 60, but nowhere in between.

I just got back from there this evening. Take your goretex boots. Everything down there is soaked.

I wasn't hiking, I was down there for work; but I did notice how wet everything is. The ground is absolutely saturated in some places.

The Canal Loop is nice but the entire loop is only 14.2 miles. The only other lengthy option on the North end is to section hike the North/South trail. The North portion of the NS trail is 30 miles. The entire NS trail is 58.6 miles.

Course if you did it solo, you'd have to hitch a ride back to your car.

Hillaries and Cadillacs were two different bars. Hillaries closed up in the 90s i think.

I used to bartend at The Pub, on the north end of town - only bar in town where you could get a mixed drink ('cept for the Legion)

It is going to be cold and wet Saturday (tiny chance of snow). I wish I could make it but I have my in-laws coming over.

Every thing North of Golden Pond is cool but any time it's been wet out, the stream near the Fish Hatchery will be up high and you WILL get wet crossing it.
The Tennessee section of the North-South trail totally sucks... Unless you like hiking jeep roads.
I've never done any of the Fort Henry trails yet.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be going pretty soon, and I'll let you all know how it goes.
