MO cachin' n' packin' March 23-25??View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
MOGA!!!! (rhymes with TOGA!!!) lol “The same info on the website is posted below.... Am looking for input on this one. MOGA is being held on the dates noted, March 23-25. That is, the FOURTH annual MIDWEST OPEN GEOCACHING ADVENTURE. It involves a timed geocaching competition. OR... you can find the caches without doing the timed event. 60 permanent geocaches are being set up. For backpackers, Mark Twain Lake also features the Johanna Trail, which has some nice sites and trail along the reservoir. There are more details on the MOGA event, but here are things I'm considering... 1. Would you want to hold a get-together while MOGA is going on? 1A. If so, would you want to plan to camp in the area where the MOGA event is? OR hit the Johanna Trail, which is in a different area? (I am not sure at this point how far apart they are. I should get my GPS/mapping stuff out and figure that, eh??? LOL) 2. Since the caches are permanent, we could have an event strictly for our own geocachers and backpackers (and avoid the large MOGA crowd) at a later date. 3. Wherever we might set up, we could make it a "do your own thing" type event, if desired. Cache if you want... hike if you want... or do one each day, etc. It would be nice to set it up to be able to cache and/or backpack. As I recall, the closest backpacking site is maybe a couple miles in. I'm also not sure if a bunch of people can be at one site. Depending on interest, I'll check all this out. OK, here is more MOGA!!! Its own website with much info: http://www.mogageo.com/about.html Its site on www.geocaching.com, where you can sign up to attend: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCYJ1T Manual for event: http://www.mogageo.com/MOGA-2007-Man-Final.pdf Let me know what you favor, if interested in this. Dryfoot and I did 30 caches in one day at an event this past fall and that worked well. We figured maybe 5-6 miles hiking and fun offtrail stuff!” 11:45:45 PM 11/30/06 I claim Missouri... “as my backyard and personal playground. You have my permission proceed with the creation of these plans. And since your coming to my state, It would be my pleasure to meet and greet your personage. I hope to be able to be present for this trip...maybe I can hook up with some hot woman to show me how to work my tool...errrrr...gps unit. LOL Thanks Lisa.” 8:23:32 AM 12/01/06 “I should be able to hike by then, so put me down as a maybe. I will need to get closer to the actual time before I can determine what my calendar will look like. I would really like to make it to this event though.” 8:34:58 AM 12/01/06 “maybe...although I'm not sre if I want to be around a bunch of people and crowds.....” 9:39:46 AM 12/01/06 “I want to do both, geocache and backpack. I don't care about doing the timed event, I'm fine with finding the caches on our own.” 5:14:45 PM 12/01/06 “LOL, I KNEW roxyruby would show up, addict that she is. Moooooohahahahaha!” 8:12:56 PM 12/01/06 “You're just evil! BTW, I'm up to 42 now. Cold weather keeping me in just now, but I have a notebook full of caches to search for as soon as it gets above 20 degrees.” 10:41:01 AM 12/02/06 “I'm really tempted. That's a heck of a long drive though for me. I wouldn't be interested in timed geo-caching either; reminds me of timed math tests in grade school! YUCK!” 12:53:34 PM 12/02/06 “10.5 hours of driving to be exact. If it's the Mark Train Lake in Perry, MO. There are like 5 Mark Twain Lakes there!” 1:19:40 PM 12/02/06 “I may need to change the date on this. Just remembered a big community project I'm involved in has its big fundraiser that night. So we may have our own fun event some other weekend and skip the huge mob!” 6:29:15 PM 12/13/06 << back to Deam Wilderness page
