ther's an item on ebay that i really want. i seem to recall hearing about a program that puts in a higher bid right before the auction ends. does anyone know what this is?

wohoo, i got it. i picked up a patagonia r4 new for $76. I probably could have gotten it cheaper but I had already placed a bid on Ebay for $70. It was at $56 when another bidder came along. If I had only used the sniper I probably could have gotten it for under $60 because our bids wouldn't have kept raising each other. lesson learned.

yup, now that i know about it, keep your mouth shut.

Have you ever been to the auctionsniper forums? It's pretty funny. I read some posts about how the people there like to toy with the other bidders, making them think they've given up on the item, then bam at the last second. Ruthless!

XL, email me and I will send an invite your way. I generally have mine set to bid at 5 sec. I have gone as short as 3 sec. somehow the 2 sec difference makes me nervous. I rarely buy on ebay but when I do its something I really want.

WOW...got a retired NAVAL AIRCRAFT CARRIER....um anyone want to help me cover the 12,000,000 cost, I am thinking UPS won't be bringing this to Augusta Ga. (LOL)...Nah I have used my three snipes judiciously. Two Christmas presents my wife wants for the kids...and oh yeah a new rainjacket for me.

Birch, does sniper just hit a bit higher or go for your max? I am assuming it ups the bid just enough to win.

It will bid up to your highest bid if necessary but does so by increasing the same way a proxy bid would work. It submits your total amount but you are only billed for the amount it takes to win, usually the high bid plus $.50-1.00

So normal paypal proceedure after you win...and they tack on the extra huh?

Its been a while but I think you are billed seperately by auction sniper, either to a CC,bank acc or paypal. I dont recall the amount being added to the regular ebay bill as they are not affiliated. But, like I said its been a while though.
