uncliff, 80% of Americans didn't identify themselves as muslims, thats the difference between what I said and what you said. My point was that if you are a christian you are unlikely to identify yourself with the #&%!$heads that protested a funeral.

All rise for Hillary Clinton!

Why are we rising for her? What has she ever done well?

I know! She is THE most cheated on person in history!

Good job!

What? Can you think of any woman whose husband cheated/raped more women than Bill?

Hypocrisy Defined:

The so-called 'Religious Right' supports a war of aggression resulting in thousands upon thousands of people blown to bits.

If that is what passes for 'religion' these days, you can keep it.

And yes, we told you so.   Everyone with half a brain saw this coming.

Even if we all agree Iraq is a mess and probably a mistake can anyone say that not completing the job is the right thing to do? Is it morally right to pull up stakes and leave these people who depend on us dangling in the breeze? Is it morally right to slowly bleed funding to end it and leave it undone? I would think the right and proper thing to do in everyone's eyes and best interest is to finally throw every swinging dick we have at the problem, finish shlt up and come home and start minding our own business for a change.

a-men, cept that last part where I disagree w/ some of my conservative friends. There are many cases where intervention is not only right, but necessary to prevent getting to a situation where things are out of control. If anything, we shouldn't have lolligagged talking to the useless UN.

As long as the lobbyist Left and Rite party runs this country nothing will ever be done, because the people can't express themselves by voting for candidates and laws that all written and chosen by the lobbyist to begin with. Get rid of the Income tax and you will never deal with 'Ws' and Hillaries again.

Two wrongs dont make a right nigal, (they do make a right winger tho... :P) The Iraqi people can decide to hold a civil war or not. They dont need our presence to slaughter each other. If we are truly there to protect Iraq the we need to patroll the borders and allow the Iraqi's to deal with thier own internal problems themselves....

It's not that simple.

It's not a boxing ring, it's a country with 27.5 million people, that can be thought of as several counties in one border. The border on the map doesn't define the social divisions.

I keep hearing this line from people defending W's war. There are two errors - first Saddam's game was not to take over the world, it was to become the hegemonic power in the gulf, perhaps to take it over.

The second mistake is that we had already done a lot about it and were continuing to do it. We had no fly zones, we'd stopped his military expansion in Kuwait, we had a sanctions regime and we had renewed inspections. We were regularly attacking Iraqi targets. The inspections teams had made Iraq destroy its long range missles not long before W and his guys started the war.

We'd also invaded Afghanistan to go after the masterminds of 9-11, which sent a message to Saddam and much of the world.

Sarge

There is not a dictator anywhere in the world with the means to "slowly take over the world" and therefore no point at which to intervene.
It takes an economy of sufficient size to wage sustained war and Saddam Hussein's armed forces were in no shape to even take over Iraq.
Even with U.S. help in the '80s Hussein couldn't do it and his armed forces were at their peak.

still not answering the question, it's a simple one

The premise is "there is a dictator making the rounds to slowly take over the world". The question is "do we intervene, and if so, when?"

Obviously it's hypothetical. (or is it?)

Lumberjack

It's more like fantastic than hypothetical.

Even the U.S. with it's economic and miltary power could not take over the world.

Your question is not legitimate since there can be no dictator "slowly taking over the world".

That sort of thing may have been possible in the past.
But as we know it didn't work out for any "dictator" in the 20th century and the chances of it happening now are slima and none.
