Can you oppose the war and oppose the wingnut trolls on TrailTalk?

Yes, easily.

The Iraqis seem to have no legal means to control so-called "private contractors" in the employ of the United States and affiliated corporations.  Apparently they have no say at all as to whether these people continue to operate in their country.

That certainly sounds like an occupation, doesn't it?

I think even the libbies see the illogic of their behavior. And I think most people know if this had been Any DEM in the WHITE HOUSE...well the libbies would have been trumpeting his actions.

saleboard...militias are civilian groups. Much like the law enforcement can 'deputize" civilians.

Remember the original "militia" were farmers etc. Most of the time they were never able to STAND up to the Brits in straight out combat.

This allows civilians to maintain personal weapons for PROTECTION from the Government.

--Joe Scarborough (R-FL)

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?

The Senate voted Thursday to condemn an advertisement by the liberal anti-war group MoveOn.org that accused the top military commander in Iraq of betrayal.

The 72-25 vote condemned the full-page ad that appeared in The New York Times last week as Gen. David Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, testified on Capitol Hill. The ad was headlined: "General Petraeus or General Betray Us? Cooking the books for the White House."

I had a guy in the campground tonight that is going back in a week for his 2nd tour in this war and he was in the first Iraq war too. He was very interesting.

Yes I support all our troops but hate and disagree with the war.

I was all for going into Afghanistan and look for sin laiden and routing out the taliban.

My prayers are with all our troops everywhere.

I heard that Blackwater's operating licence that was supposedly revoked by the Interior Minister the other day had actually expired months ago and nobody had even bothered to renew it.

After watching the Iraqi opinion polls for the last couple of years, I've been wondering what would happen if the Iraqis voted to have our forces leave.

Not much --- (?)

Move on messed up with their add, but what's really silly is the spectacle of the US Senators' spending time passing a vote to make a proclamation about an ad purchased by a political action group over an insult to one general.

The whole thing reeks of the opportunist Rove style BS - change the subject and discredit all those who ask uncomfortable questions.

Evidence mounting about Bush's special treatment to avoid military service? Hit on one screw-up by CBS about some documents so hard that no one dares raise the issue again. The sales campaign for the Iraq War threatened by news about bogus WMD claims, hit Scott Ritter and others hard to discredit them. Make the critics the issue. Rosy forecasts on Iraq which don't seem credible? Find some nay-sayer whose rhetoric has gone over the top and make them the issue, and while you are at it cast aspersions on anyone who won't join in the charade.

Funny that the same folks who smeared Max Cleland so effectively are appalled that someone might question the testimony of someone who has faithfully served his country.

Kleetn, Bear, it represents the SACRIFICE just Our nation had to make. From men like My Uncle who spent 5 years of his life in places that would make most people walk off and blow their brains out.

It also was a time when people stayed home (the people who I guess since they didn't fight weren't IMPORTANT) and suffered through rationing and the continuing fear of a threat that could have been stopped a half a decade earlier.

The neat thing is tht most World War II vets I know really don't care.

As my Uncle said (Many times),"Its what had to be done, its the price of living here."

Now granted according to the libbies he was a War Criminal. Since he invaded places that had never attacked us directly (little Islands like Guadacanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa) but then thats all ancient history to most libbies.

Libby Dole,....I am assuming you mean BOB Dole...(since Libby his wife did not go to World War II).

When did I ask them....OH back when Tom Hanks became a Patriot after his HEAVY COMBAT experience...(LOL)...Making a movie///(LOL)...

I have quite a few who are still alive. As a rule that was a TIME in their life. They moved on as a rule. Rather than sit in a corner of a hospital and drool on themselves as they cry about how TOUGH life is...they mostly came home and led reasonably productive lives.

But then I guess they wanted us to have all they didn't have (being they grew up during the Depression and went on to fight the most horrible war in World history). Men like my uncle saw the horror but they knew if they never moved on that they would not be able TO provide the world they had fought and suffered for.

XL - yer so full of malarky it aint funny. There is a world of differance between our invasion of Iraq and WW2. For one thing in WW2 we were attacked first and our goals were not polluted by big business profiteering. Hitler was an annouced enemy of the world and loudly proclaimed his intentions to conquer the world which were backed up by actuall aggression. Japan attacked us becuase we had cut off thier oil supplies in protest of thier attacks on china...

Both countries were proven aggressors that had attacked several other countries long before we declared war on them. Saddam was nothing more then a swaggering braggart safely traped inside his own borders with a joke for an army. Japan and Germany were proven military threats to everyone and declared war on us before we acted.

But then the war with Iraq was accomplished a long time ago. We still have not built a functional goverment there nor have we really done anything usefull to restore the infrastructure destroyed during the war.

In the end XL please give us one single substantiated reason why AMERICAN troops, our sons and daughters, should be placed in harms way? How many body bags will you fill before you realise that there was never anything to gain by the Iraq war? Also if your so in favor of the war there would you please volunteer for a tour of duty since you are such a strong supporter of our troops? You want to wave the flag and call us stupid libbies yet you sit and risk nothing. Tell you what , just give us a list of how many of your own personal friends you are willing to see die in the streets of Iraq.
