Somehow, I just can't get a good visual on Dutchess using "yall" or "darlin" correctly in a sentence.

It has to flow from the lips like butter melting across a hot biscuit.

Darlin, yall just can't do that up north.

Yawl; a two-masted, fore-and-aft-rigged sailing vessel having a large mainmast and a smaller jiggermast or mizzenmast stepped abaft the sternpost.

Which means; if you're a yawl you have a smaller stick up your rear. Bye yawl.

Please find the Lowest Common (whole number) Multiple of the following numbers so I purchase the least wasteful combination of ingredients:

18 (pairs of marshmallows per bag)
13.5 (pairs of graham crackers per box)
6 (chocolate bars per pkg)

How many guests are you having? How much will everyone eat? Is anyone diabetic? Will everyone eat a s'more or will some have just plain marshmallows? Plain crackers? Plain candy bars? How big are the candy bars? Is there a mandatory recipe to follow? C'mon, give us something to work with.

This needs to be manageable, so the guests will all be required to eat one full s'mores, consisting of 2 graham crackers, one chocolate bar, and 2 marshmallows. To keep this efficient, we're going to invite the number of guests necessary to eat one s'mores without wasting any ingredients.

I could still use that answer if anybody has got it.

"wasting any ingredients":

In this case I mean not having a leftover marshmallow in the bag, for example, after making the s'mores (nor a leftover chocolate bar, or graham cracker). All products bought must be used for making the s'mores as defined above.

baume 66 guess
4 x 13.5 = 54 (graham crackers)
3 x 18 = 54 (marshmallows)
6 x 6 = 36 (chocolate bars)

Very close - adjust your chocolate bars and you got it.

BTW, what method did you use?

Both the marshmallow bag and the graham cracker box list approximate quantities (actually, servings). I added what was actually in my box/bags and used those here as an average. It is possible that one or more package/box would not contain the amount figured, but this is beyond our control for purposes of this exercise.

We prefer S'mOreos. Something we invented a few years ago when we were car camping and forgot the graham crackers and chocolate. Twist open an Oreo and sandwich the roasted marshmallow in-between. The creme gets all gooey and you still get the cracker+chocolate taste. Mmmmmmm.

Don't ask me how many bags of Oreos and marshmallows are necessary for an even mix. Math has never been my forte'.

A group of backpackers goes on a hike starting at a trailhead.

At the first intersecting trail half of them peel off for home, plus half a backpacker.

At the second intersecting trail half of them peel off for home, plus half a backpacker.

At the end of the trail half of those left head for home, plus half a backpacker.

All of the backpackers have headed home. Only whole backpackers headed for home. No backpackers were chopped in half. How many backpackers started from the trailhead?

This isn't a sentence. "Plus half a backpacker" what? It reads as if half the them headed for home where there was already half a backpacker waiting. Please rewrite using proper grammar. Thanks.

arclite

5/07/10

That looks more like an English problem than a math problem because the grammar is almost incomprehensible.

"At the end of the trail half of the backpackers left, plus half a backpacker, head for home."

Who talks like that?

Do you mean to say "At the end of the trail, half of the backpackers plus half of a backpacker, left for home."??
HiGHPLAiNSDRiFTER
8:53:28 AM
5/07/10

That looks like obfuscation and red herring instead of logic.

For those like Humberto Pedro Delgado, who are confused by English:

Do you mean to say "At the end of the trail, half of the backpackers plus half of a backpacker, left for home."??”

You almost got it, Pedro!

It's half of the backpackers who are left after the other backpackers peeled off earlier and went home.

Reading is not difficult. Repeat after me:

See spot run.

I believe it's the conceptualization that's confusing you.
arclite

Let me be clearer:

It's half of the backpackers who are left after the other backpackers peeled off earlier and went home... plus half a backpacker.
arclite
9:13:01 AM
5/07/10

That is NOT clearer.

The part in question is to what part of the sentence are you attributing "plus half a backpacker"?

Does "plus half a backpacker" go with "half of the backpackers who are left", or with "the other backpackers peeled off earlier and went home"?

You are not using proper Engrish.
