“I think Saranac is west of Lake Placid, they get more lake effect snow than Moose pond area.”
“Check this map. It looks like Moose ake has about 2-4 on the ground right now.
“10 weather channel forcast is calling for possible rain on the North Hudson report but I can't figure out where it is reporting from.”
“Bring your rubbers.”
“I figured a place called witherbee was pretty close, they're talking about a possible nor-easter this weekend, so mebbe that'll dump some. Do they typically track that far inland?
Ohh, heavy snow tonight people!

“Try a weather channel report on Moriah, NY. It's just north east of the . . . . . you know.”
“precision, alittle gun shy? What are your travel plans?”
““I figured a place called witherbee was pretty close, they're talking about a possible nor-easter this weekend, so mebbe that'll dump some. Do they typically track that far inland?
Not normally. If you type in North Hudson on the NOAA site it should give you about the best accuracy. The weather report would be out of Burlington, VT. Don't bother looking at the extended forecasts, as they are almost always wrong; half the time they can't even get the forecast right 2 days in advance.

“Woo Hoo 12+ inches at my house on Saturday! Too bad I don't think they are going to get it in the ADK's.”
“We need snow dammit. :)”
“weather channel calling it a full-on blizzard now.”
“I can't wait for the Blizzard! 12-18" at my house by Sunday night!!!!!
I just wish the ADK's were getting it.”
“Ok New weather forecast from Accuweather

i guess old man winter finally got his ass in gear.”
“Yeah, the old bastard hiccupped and blew his nose a few times and it seems he may whip up some cold weather yet.”
“It might be a good thing to have some extra tarps toclose off the leanto. The wind is what will get you.”
“So what we looking at for the drive in here. I should be investing in some chains in case huh?”
“Chains are a nice ace in the hole.
Three years ago I used chains on my front-drive Escape and got all the way into and out of the trail head.”
“Y2 what kind of car do you have?”
“Tire chains??? What type of roads are we driving in on?
Tire chains aren't available in MI (illegal) and I don't want to have to go shopping for them somewhere in NY. Are they really going to be necessary?
Oddly enough, The Weather Channel was saying that flooding might be a problem next weekend because it was supposed to rain later in the week!”
“The Noreaster this weekend completely missed the Adirondacks -- didn't even get a flake of snow from it.
I wouldn't go by the Saranac Lake forecast, as that and Lake Placid are both west of the Adirondack watershed divide, at higher elevation than North Hudson, and are more subject to lake effect snow. I think the forecasts for either Burlington, VT or Lake George, NY would be more accurate. Also, Ticonderoga, NY is nearby.
Mileage-wise, Lake Placid is less than half hour away, but the weather patterns can be quite different.”
“The southern Adirondacks got less than 1/2" from this storm with less snow the farther north you go.
“Isn't it amazing that a storm like that can clobber one area and totally bypass another in a relatively close vicinity?
I sure am hoping for some snow....I really want to use my gear sled and my new snowshoes.”
current snow depths
““So what we looking at for the drive in here. I should be investing in some chains in case huh?”
ignore this user
I highly doubt you will need chains. It looks like the trailhead is off of a secondary road (it should be paved, plowed, and salted/sanded).”
“Looking colder and it looks like the possible rain on Friday is diminishing.
-8* is a possibility for Saturday night. Wind looks like it will be an issue this year. Bring your warm socks!

“I'd like the weather to make up its mind.
Wunderground is forecasting a little warmer conditions this afternoon”
“Accuweather, I don't know where they are reporting from says 5.9inches of snow 13-15th of Feb. Keep your fingers crossed.”
“I hope there is more snow. If this weather stands for the weekend, I'm between snow and regular stakes to get my #&%!$in` tent stable! lol!”
“Warm and rainy, what a bunch of BS!”
“We could move locations?”
“It looks like we might be on the edge of the warmer weather. Lake George to the south is calling for rain in Thur. but Lake placid is calling for 4-6 inches.
I think it is anyones guess. Friday and Sat night should be in the single digits.”
“Wunder updated a colder forecast for Fri night (-5) and Sat -- Highs around 10 above and the low around 10 below.”
“Dat's preety cold!
last edited: 2/14/06 3:04:35 PM”
“So we're looking at little to no snow, rain, and then dropping to ten below. Hmmmmmm”
“Sounds pretty slick, don't it?
If this stays this way, everybody better watch it getting there -- could be a tad slippery.”
“I just saw on the weather here that there is a possible blast of Artic cold moving south out of Canada. Well below 0* for this weekend.
I guess Onga Bonga works. Huh, who knew Artex was right.”
“I honestly do not think I have ever seen such a flux in weather conditions this close to the hike.
Well, I wanted it to make up its mind -- I think a thank you in is order.”
“I'm at my husband-in-law's (my ex-wife's husband) borrowing a larger pack for the insane conditions. I'll be bringing both kinds of stakes and won't pack until I'm at trailhead on Friday.
“high of 43 friday, high of -1 Saturday, freaky stuff”
“Can you believe a posible 60* temp change from Friday afternoon to Saturday night?
I just hope it doesn't rain on us Friday and then get that cold. Everything will be frozen solid.”
“"I just hope it doesn't rain on us Friday and then get that cold. Everything will be frozen solid."
I agree. I'm planning for that exact situation to happen, however.”
“PS - Wunder is calling for big winds and rain, then by mid-afternoon -- severe temp drop with snow showers. I'd just like there to be enough snow to pull a sled in --- sounds like we'll have it on the way out.”
“They're calling for freezing rzin on Friiday now. I might hike in on Saturday.”
“This is shaping up to be a party!!”
“38* Friday afternoon -4* Friday night!
-35* Real Feel Saturday Night -13* actual temp winds up to 26mph!
Bring your warm undies!”
