Crazy weather...

“I just took a five mile and was thinking how spring like it was today and it has been for weeks...Geese and swans everywhere, even catapillers! So I come home and there is a Severe Winter warning on my computer for Friday that could dump at least 8 inches of snow....

“It's strange here too. It was rather spring like (for here) the first half of January and then we got 4-5 inches of snow 2 days ago. There's about 3 more inches on the ground right now and still snowin'.”

“well our non-winter weather is gone. We had a bunch of snow yesterday, although it's really blowing, so it doesn't look like that much.

Early this AM it was crazy!! There was a "sun dog" on each side. And, maybe because the sun was so low, there were huge columns!! Never seen that before, very cool!!

“Two dead after trees fall on vehicles, thousands lose power

(Saratoga Springs, NY - AP) - Two people have died in upstate New York today after trees fell on their vehicles during high winds gusting to more than 60 miles an hour.

State transportation department officials say a DOT worker was killed when a tree fell on his truck on a road at Saratoga Spa State Park. In the Rochester suburb of Irondequoit, a woman was killed when a large tree toppled onto her car this morning.

The high winds began tearing across upstate New York early this morning, sending temperatures plunging from a high of 60 degrees in western New York in just a few hours. More than 100,000 utility customers from the Buffalo area to northern New York were without power at one point.

Schools were closed in an eight-county area stretching from Buffalo and its suburbs to the Rochester area and the western Finger Lakes region.

The weather forecasters here think it will be a very dry summer, and we may have a repeat of the '98 firestorms, when the ash from fires to the west of us fell at the beaches like snow. It was very creepy, and hard to breathe for normal people, let alone those with asthma. It was a few years before I could enjoy the smell of a campfire after that. Parts of Pennsylvania look like they're way behind on rain levels too. Most of the southeast is as well. It'll be a hard year for farmers again.”

“we had the coolest weather pattern pass over last night...i was working in my garden and off in the distance was a very thin very dark nasty looking band of storm clouds that kept getting closer and closer...when it was over head it got real dark and the wind picked up but not a drop of rain fell...then it past over and was perfectly sunny again...the whole thing happened in less than 20 minutes”
