Today The Man and I drove down to a private range we have privilges at in WA state. We spent the day training for upcoming classes and just having a good time. I spent about half the day timing Synchro as he went thru different training he needed to check up on. We had the whole range to ourselves most of the day. I love shooting, and I am not shy about that ;-) Good stress reliever ;-) Training Synch is fun....I get to hold the gun timer behind him for hours.....and I get to critique him...bawhahhah!!
Anyhoo..me shooting a new toy:

It was an intresting day to say the least...as usual we got rained on..but hey it is WA state...
Watched my two men - Ford loves his rifle ;-)

Be able to shoot firearms accurately is the next best thing to firearm ownership. Good for you Sarbar.

I have a couple classes coming up soon at this range, and he has me using a new pistol, so I needed range time pretty badly. Most likely I will be shooting with that one or the Springfield 9mm. The revolver I was shooting was very heavy but had zero kickback.
It is our joke that since we are taking classes on the same weekend there...it is our hot anniversary date ;-) yep, we get to spend the night cleaning guns in a no-tell-motel. Now that just says "fun!" ;-)

I remember when as a kid I worked to get my Basic Rifle Marksmanship certifate (.22, prone) and how proud I was to earn it one summer at camp, going to all the practice sessions I could. I think it's a good skill to have even if one never ends up owning a gun. You learn something, a measure of respect for potentially dangerous devices, something you take with you for the rest of your life.

with a thread title like that, you deserve any flaming that comes your way......

but seriously, if people are going to have guns, id rather see gun safety and responsibility instilled early

Around here, many locals, practice with their firearms frequently on their small tracts of land, not necassarily endangering anyone but certainly is a nuisance to the neighbor's.

Just across the road, 2 weeks ago, one neighbor complained to another about the party of the second part repeatedly firing an extremely loud muzzle-loader on a Sunday afternoon, so the party of the second part shot the party of the first part. First guy went to a regional trauma center, 2nd guy is being held with a huge bail, quoted as stating, 'How dare anyone question his god gived right to practice?'

BTW, I am no liberal, not a conservative either.

I am amazed that offended people haven't ranted here yet - the title really is a flame and an invitation to flame.

Anyhow - I know quite a few liberals in MA and in NHwho enjoy their guns. Only difference between the conservative and the liberal gun owners in Mass is that the liberals grouse a bit less about the State licensing and registration.

Most liberals I know would be not be at all bothered by the content of the thread - unless you were flouting laws, regulations or safety codes. There are gun clubs in Mass that folow Mass laws.

Gun Control is being able to hit what you shoot.

I need to pop of a few rounds myself.

your thread title cracked me up, Sarb...this week-end, many were discussing firearms around the campfire when the griz said something to me like, "you're a liberal, how can you like guns?" or something to that effect..cracked me up...I told him I liked machines and guns were some of the most beautifully crafted machines in the world...I don't think he agreed with me...LOL...I'm hoping for perfect weather this year for deer season so we get the population down to a managable level...it would be nice to see branches lower than 4 feet sometime in the next decade...

Tree- I didn't see this as trolling, but I did see it as a joke built on a negative stereotype. I saw no harm intended, but I did want to chime in to counter the false dichotomy.

There are plenty of gun control supporters who own guns and have a heck of a good time with them. Sure there are gun hating liberals, but there are also gun loving liberals.

recognizing that your thread title
was in jest . . .

I am probably considered a liberal by folks here. I love guns.

My only problem with guns in the USA is the NRA.

I can't understand for the life of me why any reasonable, reasonably well educated citizen has a problem with registration, wait periods and background checks.

There not one arguement put forth by the "conservative" supporters of the NRAs rabid frothing at the mouth stance that makes a pisshole in the snow bit of sense.

I have two reasons for disliking waiting periods:

1) I have to wait two days to pick up my brand-new pistol when I buy it. If I was going to go on a rampage and kill a bunch of people, I sure wouldn't go buy a new gun just to do it, I'd use one of the ones I already own.

2) They don't apply to long guns, at least in my state. So, if I didn't own a gun and I wanted to kill a bunch of people, all I have to do is buy a shotgun instead of a pistol, and I can start to kill immediately.

That said, a waiting period for first-time buyers is okay by me. But I feel like I should be able to show my pistol permit (meaning I already have one) and be able to take my new pistol home so I can caress it all night, immediately.

Why does the government need to know who has guns and who doesn't? Well in pre www2 the government of Germany knew who had guns and who didn't and they had a very good reason (to them at least) for knowing. So why does the United States of America need to know that I have a gun? Is it because in case of civil unrest the police will ask you to (with your legal fire arm) to patrol the streets with it to control crime? I don't think so. So Lee and all the other well meaning people who can't see the big picture wake up. The federal government wants the military to take over right away the next time we have a disaster (hurricane, flood, fire, earthquake, someone the government doesn't like) and patrol not as helpers to the local law enforcement people but to be in charge. And I bet you that everyone that is on the gun ownership list will be ask to surrender their guns as a precaution for safety. Can you argue with that. A heavily armed US soldier standing on your doorstep saying I am here to take you gun away so that nothing bad will happen to you. Our freedom is being taken away in very small steps sometimes without our knowing it and sometimes with our consent. When it go away it never returns.

The problem with guns is that people don't know how to use them!! Just look at the facts. From the mouth of our fine president, George W:
"For every fatal shooting, there were roughly three non-fatal shootings. And, folks, this is unacceptable in America. It's just unacceptable. And we're going to do something about it."—Philadelphia, May 14, 2001
