the season premiere of "24" reminded me of the atmosphere of children of men, in a near-future paranoid sort of way

i went to see Pan's Labyrinth this weekend. Great movie! The effects were great, the direction was great, the duel story lines were great. It was just great. I had a funny feeling it was going to be in Spanish and subtitled which it turned out to be.

Yep -- That's it!

There was interesting program about the battle of Thermopylae and the events leading up to it on the History Channel last night... perfect timing.

When I go to the movies it is to see a kid's movie with my daughter.

Max = 4 stars

Charlotte's Web - 3 stars

Bridge to Teribithia - 2 stars as a kids movie. 3 stars as an adult movie (the previews are very misleading...not a fantasy movie like Narnia or Arthur and the Invisibles. Actually more an older kid movie).

Arthur and the Invisibles - 2.5 stars

TMNT - 3 stars

I almost got an "extra" part in the movie 300. They needed some archers for a scene...only four....I found out too late and didn't get picked. :o( There were scenes of thousands of archers...but they were computer generated.

i think it looks stupid...a machine gun for a leg??!!...

thats the point. its an homage to all those old "so bad, theyre good" exploitation movies of the 70's. anyways, i believe the machine-gun leg is from the robert rodriguez half of the movie

So we're gonna go to the new Shrek flick tonight and i got tix online, this is the rating description:

Shrek the Third
1 hr. 33 min.
(PG), for some crude humor, suggestive content and swashbuckling action

I don't believe I've ever seen the term "swashbuckling action" used like that before...

LOL

interesting

Saw Shrek last night and enjoyed it. Not sure if it is the best of the three, but a worthy effort and I recommend it.

I may have to see that transformers movie...the trailer is totally awesome.

Recent movies I've added to my DVD collection that have been pretty good:

Little Miss Sunshine--a little slow at times... but it took on a twist that was quite unexpected (a couple of hilariously funny scenes)

Freedom Writers - this one is now in my top 10 list of all-time favorites. I really liked some of the social issues it brought up. Very inspirational...

Last King of Scotland - Fictional but based on some real situations... brutal at times. It was interesting because I really didn't know much about Idi Amin -- Forrest Whittaker was very good as was the actor who played the young doctor.

We saw Spiderman 3 over the weekend - it was OK. Yeah, that transformer trailer was action packed!! Always makes me wonder if you just saw the best parts and the rest will be crappy. B-Gal just added "Sabrina" (the original, with Hepburn, Holden, and Bogart - not to mention Grandma Walton, Ellen Corby) to our DVD collection, and we watched it last night - great flick!

Just saw the Transformer movie. Great movie, slam full of action, decent acting, some humor and a fair story line. It was action packed from opening credits to closing credits. We didn't even refill our popcorn tub until after the movie because no one wanted to miss anything. I honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy the movie, but my kids wanted to go, but I was oh so wrong. I would watch this over any other movie playing currently, action or not. The military action looked fairly realistic, too.

saw Evening with my mom on the Fourth. It was good. I enjoyed it....not really a guy movie though.

Saw Donnie Brasco too...on tv with Johnny Depp. That was also good. Didn't realize how good an actor he is until I took inventory of all the movies he's played in. The guys really good. He's easy round the eyes too. Always a plus.

We enjoyed Transformers too. Cedric the Entertainer was hilarious. Lots of humor and the action was good. About the only dumb action item was the guy hoping on the sport bike, laying it down on purpose, sliding about 100 yards, and then hoping right up.

And the slide was a bit far, but he had a flakjacket on. LOL

I am a big Harry Potter fan. I have read all teh books at least 3 times each, dress in character to go to the book release party, own and watch the DVD's more than any other DVD's we own, and I still thought Hewlett Packard first even though I knew what treebait meant for her HP.

BTW, treebait, the wife and I are taking the afternoon off next week to see the HP movie with the kids :).

she is always saying that there will not be any more HP books after book 7. Probably because she is richer than the queen and doesn't need to meet anyone else's deadlines and expectations. But I find it very likely that due to the demands of fans she will franchise the HP world and we will see a lot of books about the rest of the characters written by lesser mortals with her name on the cover as a "co-author".
